A Special Valentine's Day Message Just For You :)

Happy Valentine's Day readers! I thought that I'd use this space to grant each and every one of you some well wishes and the chance to spread some love. I've been truly blessed with the ability to love and to be loved back so rather than share in the cynicism that many will display, I decided to take a different route. I don't want to spend much time delving into the all too familiar "singles vs. taken" battle because it's time consuming and everyone has their reasons for adorning and/or disliking today. But, I will say that no matter what your relationship status is, I truly hope that you find some time today to smile. For as "commercial" and "phony" as this day may be for some, to others, it's everything. So, this is my request: If you can help it, please don't rain on someone else's parade because you haven't properly healed from your wounds. Don't be tempted to entertain cynicism because it'll be the popular theme for many bitter people today. Conan O'Brien put it best during his final NY show when he said, "I don't like cynical people. This is life and not everything works out. Sometimes, you don't get everything you want". If you can't resist the urge to stay silent and must vent, try to keep it away from me because I want to enjoy my day. I want to enjoy what the universe has given me: a past to grow from & a bright future to look forward to :)

Whitney Didn't Know Her Own Strength

Hello readers. I know this post is long overdue but I'm glad that I've decided to write it. On Saturday, Whitney Houston passed away. I wanted to start out with this video because I truly feel that whenever you're on the verge of crumbling and ready to throw it all away, there has to be something inside of you that smacks you, shakes you, and doesn't allow to break. As Ms. Houston said "your life wasn't built to break". In her recent comeback, she proved that she didn't break but sadly, this woman who graced the world with her powerful vocals has journeyed home and has journeyed to peace.

There is no denying that the world is sad. We see the evidence in the 24 hour news coverage and the multitude of tributes in her honor. I feel especially sad because in my 23 years of existence, I was always reminded that I was named after her because of my father's love for her. Ms. Houston was the celebrity love of his life & when he found out he was having a girl, he grappled between two names but he eventually named me Whitney and gave me the middle name of his mother. I've never had any qualms with this decision because to be named after such a regal icon was incredible. Throughout her troubled years, I was still proud to bear the name "Whitney". There was no shame in that game. I pray for her family who must find the light in such a dark time. Death isn't easy to handle so while we can't literally lend a hand and/or a hug, our support will be more than welcomed. As I continue with the tradition of tributes, I leave you with some more of my favorite Whitney songs that always left me speechless and hitting the relay button. We Came Back & Shot A 3!

Readers! I write to you with much excitement when I say that tonight's "Rivalry Week" match-up between the Duke Blue Devils and the UNC Tar Heels was one for the ages. Fans from both schools were laced with so many emotions and they gathered in the Dean Dome to watch this historic event. After the many shenanigans that took place with the Blue Devils, with nearly 2 minutes on the clock, a HUGE blunder from Tyler Zeller, and a miraculous play from Austin Rivers, WE WON THE GAME 85-84. Where to even begin?

In the first half, Duke dominated and kept Harrison Barnes and his shooting down to nothing. It seemed as if we would run away with the game but all of a sudden, right before the half closed, UNC found their stride and the Zeller/Barnes dynamic force came into action. With 38 seconds left on the clock before halftime, Duke somehow forgot where they were and who they were and allowed UNC to come back and take the lead. That's right readers, they allowed UNC to take the lead while they danced their way into the locker room. I knew right then and there that it wouldn't bode well for my team or my sanity at that point. Let's go to the 2nd half.

After turning back and forth between Law and Order: SVU and the game, the lead kept increasing and increasing as my hope kept falling and falling. At one point, UNC was up by 12 points with nearly 10 minutes to go in the game. I kept praying, cursing, praying some more, and doing some more cursing, and finally decided to cut the antics out and watch. I guess it worked because Duke began to cut their lead down to 7 and once the lead was cut down by 4, UNC leading 82-78, I started to get crazy. When the lead was cut down to 2, 82-80, I knew the flood gates were opening. Things were getting real. Things got so real that when Kelly attempted to shoot a 3-pointer, Zeller helped him out and helped Duke gain 2 points. The score was 82-84. Zeller went to the free throw line and missed his 2nd shot, there was about 10 seconds left and I kept screaming to my boyfriend, "ALL WE NEED IS 3! ALL WE NEED IS 3!". My screaming prayers were answered and the freshman extraordinaire aka Doc Rivers' son aka Austin Rivers shot a 3! DUKE WON 85-54! I REPEAT, DUKE WON 85-84! Coach K's record as the GOAT is still intact!

Much respect and props goes out to UNC who really had us backed in a corner for the majority of the game. Their hustle is real but the better team won ;). Ahh, all is right in my world :)

We're Back! Back In The NY Groove!

This is dedicated to the NY Giants who are Super Bowl 46 champions. I'm not going to get into logistics and give you a play- by-play because after witnessing a gut-wrenching and nail biter like that, my emotions are shot. Also, I'll let the die hard Giants fan write to their hearts' content. The New England Patriots played a helluva game but the hotter and better team won, 21-17 to be exact. Congrats NY and I'll see you all at the ticker tape parade. Let's occupy City Hall & Wall Street for the right reasons ;)

Mob Wives Starts Off With A Big Big BANG!

Happy New Year readers! I hope you all ushered in 2012 with family, friends, and tons of excitement. I rang in the new year doing all three plus watching some marathons of my favorite shows in which one of them happened to be Mob Wives. The new season of Mob Wives aired tonight at 8 pm and I'm dedicating this post to my shot nerves and boiled blood because these women know how to rile up a crowd. I rarely blog about reality tv shows but tonight's episode was so good my fingers had to type something! Let's go through a little recap.

Last season, we left on a violent note as Karen Gravano and Drita D'Avanzo battled it out on a rooftop in an effort to bury their past which involves Drita allegedly dating and marrying Karen's ex Lee D'Avanzo while Karen and Lee were still an item. Sounds complicated right? It actually is. Fast forward a couple of months later, Drita and Karen are still feuding and leaving the remaining women in an uncomfortable position. Well, Renee Graziano isn't really focusing on this nonsense because she is preparing to go through extensive plastic surgery. She is working on her renewal and everything great it has to follow.

You know when that little voice in your head is telling you that you shouldn't do something but you decide to do it anyway? Renee had this voice but dismissed and went under the knife. After cutting out 35 pounds of fat from her body, she couldn't really handle the pain and after squirming when she should have been lying still, she ripped open the stitches from her back and had to be hospitalized. Her ordeal was nothing short of dramatic just like we like our girl ;). Nearly dying from a botched surgery, there are a few things that can make your life better and they are friends and family. She had that covered until Carla decided not to show up or even check in to see how she was feeling. The ever dramatic Renee was pissed and Carla is now on her "shit list". Dealing with a disloyal friend and a near death experience, Renee decided to throw herself a party. Parties stocked with food and alcohol ALWAYS do the trick.

Everyone in Staten Island was invited to this shindig except for Carla and while Carla was ecstatic, she was worried because Drita and Karen would under the same roof. Days leading up the event, Drita texted Karen wanting to make up. At the advice of Karen's cousin and newest wife, Ramona Rizzo, Karen ignored Drita's pleas & decided that whatever happened that night would be left up to God. It's the night of the party and everything is set in place. Drita and Karen spot each other and do their best to stay in each other's respective corners. Here's where the confusing part occurs; Renee wants Karen and Drita to join her on stage. Um, did you not just break them up months ago? They're enemies...DUH!

Drita goes on the balcony with Karen and Ramona soon following. As the clock is winding down to 9, the episode is over but we do get a sneak peek and we see Ramona barking at Drita and Drita is trying her best to be cordial but you can only allow someone to yell at you before you snap......BOOOM! Drita socks Ramona busting the side of her lip open. Word to the wise, never stick your nose where it shouldn't be.

Let's Raise Some Hell in 2012

Readers! As 2011 gears for a close, I wonder what you all are doing, thinking, and feeling. There's always an array of emotions when having to say goodbye to people, things, and years. No matter what transpired during these past 12 months, let's all hope everyone is working towards a "new year, new me". Oh lord even writing that phrase made me roll my eyes because, let me have my moment to be a little bit cynical, I'm more of a person who'd rather walk the walk than talk the talk but because not everyone shares the same views as I do, I hope you all find much success with your whole "new me" endeavor. What I think we can all agree on is that 2012 will not start off like this:

Can't you tell that I'm excited for Mob Wives to return? Although I love these 4 women and their complex stories, no one should be starting off 2012 by feuding. I guess we'll just have to watch to see why Karen and Drita are still beefing. Ok, that moment of digression is over, let's get back to the post at hand.

I don't know why I haven't been in the mood to do a "Top 10" post since Thanksgiving because I am surely a "make a list" person; I have lists in my head, my planner, and my computer. Writing a list wouldn't be right because frankly because all of my ten things can be summed up with a simple phrase "Thank You".

Thank you to everyone who has allowed this blog to shine and grow worldwide. Thank you to my family, boyfriend included, whose unwavering support has kept me afloat and sane. Many thanks to those who have been riding with me since high school and college because we shall keep riding until the wheels fall off. Thanks to the economy for not bringing me down with it. I was employed this year and able to spread my message of financial success to teenagers and adults throughout the 5 boroughs. Thanks to the new people who've entered my life and have hung in for the long journey because things shall only get better.

I don't really see a need to drag this post on because who wants to continue reading when the last day of the year has to be celebrated in style? Y'all don't have to answer that. Happy New Year guys and let's raise some hell in 2012.

A Christmas Message Written Just For You :)

Hello readers and Merry Christmas. Wherever your exact location is this holiday season, take a moment to smile and be merry. There's nothing like a smile to brighten up even the most horrific days. I'm taking my breather to write you all and to extend this warm greeting. I could of used this space to write another "Top 10 Things I Hope Santa Brought Me This Year" post like I did last year but, I believe I have everything I could have asked for. Ok ok so there are things that I really do want and it wouldn't kill me to do a Top 10 list right? So, here goes...The Top 10 Things I Hope Santa Brought Me For Christmas 2011:

10. Celebrity Friendships - I would love to be best friends with Derek Jeter & Robinson Cano

9. Career Expansion - Becoming the Chairwoman of the Federal Reserve has a nice ring to it.

7. Career Re-Awakening- The ability to leave Wall Street for good and devote my time to running my successful children's foundation geared toward academic and social development.

Alright guys I'll stop there. That was a little rouse to get you all pumped up and attentive. The list won't continue because in all seriousness, I am content with the blessings that I have received this season and I hope you are too. Remember to use this day to do three things: laugh, analyze, and cry. Laugh with your friends and family, analyze the pros and cons of this season and think about which one you'll let reign over you today, and finally cry because you are that damn overcome with joy and nothing will stop your show. Top 10 Things I'm Thankful For This Thanksgiving

As the year approaches its end, there are two things besides New Years Eve that we folks get all warm and fuzzy about: Thanksgiving and Christmas. Today is Thanksgiving and if God, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, or the Universe has allowed you to partake in the festivities, please take a moment and express your thanks. It doesn't take much to walk away from the noise, look up to the sky, and sincerely utter "thank you"therefore, find the energy and make it happen. Now I know we all want to get back to our families and stuffing our faces so here are the Top 10 things I'm more than grateful for this holiday season: (Disclaimer: There are a few things that I am thankful that many of you have seen before. It was too good not to use again)

10. Laughter - There's no greater feeling than to find something extremely funny and chuckling loudly until your stomach hurts. If you're fortunate enough to have a variety of sources to make your stomach hurt such as television, radio, and friends, then you are in my book a winner. I enjoy the moments where those in my life can change my mood from sullen to ecstatic. It it those moments that I live for and look forward to everyday. If you haven't found your means of laughter, please do so because having frown lines around your lips from laughter says a lot.

9. Positivity- We can all agree that the ability to find the silver lining in every situation is a job within itself and while there have been times when pessimism occupied my life, I couldn't help but muster up the strength to thing happy thoughts. You'd be surprised to see how your whole outlook and day changes when you alter the way you look at your life and find solutions to your problems.

8. Wisdom- I've seen a lot and have encountered life changing moments and while the majority of what I've seen and encountered were because of what you all may call "mistakes", I call them unnecessary/necessary events. What made them unnecessary was their timing but what made them essential was that I was able to see past the event and analyze it for what it really was. So, I haven't made

7. Unlimited Opportunities - I am blessed with the opportunity to love, be loved by many, and share what I have to the world. I will continue to exhaust all the energy that I have to give back and enable someone to half half of the opportunities I have.

6. Health- No list would be complete without being thankful for good health. In this crisis that we continue to weather through everyday simple necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, and health have been sacrificed for millions. I am thankful to have great coverage with my health insurance plan and I'm grateful for the 2 colds that Ive had this year. It would seem odd that I'm thankful for colds but to treat my colds with NyQuil and sleep vs extended hospital stays and surgeries.

5. Knowledge - When it comes to proper education for all, you all know that I will effortlessly fight to ensure that all children have the means to great education. I was fortunate enough to attend great schools throughout my journey of learning and when I think about the corrupt systems in place that seek to destroy the basic right of education, it makes my blood boil. We all have to do better in ensuring that our children have bright futures so let's get the ground running!

4. Consistency - I know many people whose lives have gone from close to perfection to earth shattering chaos. I am grateful that for the past year, there have been some things that have remained constant and they are: family, friends, love, health, and employment. While everything else has shifted and the time has gone by, these things have either been constant or slightly improved but never depreciated or have left.

3. Employment - Oh readers, this right here is the mother load. With the recession and the unemployment rate increasing, disgruntled and fed up citizens have taken to the streets and "Occupied Wall Street". Demanding that regulation be reinstated, the CAMELS system enforced, and economic equality for all, folks have decided to camp out in the city to voice their frustrations. I am thankful for having a job and income coming in. To see people that I know grapple with unemployment is disheartening but also eye opening. Before you decide to complain about your boss and the extra work he/she gave you, think about those having to decide between paying their rent or putting food on the table because they're a week away from being laid off.

2. Family- I'm certainly not a one dimensional woman, there are definitely many angles that make up who I am. I attribute that to my family. I'm thankful for their loving, caring, blunt, outrageous, and downright sincere nature. Without that array of qualities to choose from, I would be bland and boring...eww those words are nasty.

1. Love- There's no way I could have the ability to reflect on anything if I didn't reserve a huge chunk of heart for love. The ability to love and in turn be loved back is indescribable. You truly have to experience it to begin to help me define it. There's no greater feeling than telling someone "I love you" and having them saying it back and hearing the genuine emotion. I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

Well readers, there you have it, the 10 things I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving. May you all enjoy this holiday and stop to give genuine thanks for things in your life.

There comes a time in a blogger's life where you look at your posts, page views, and comments, and think to yourself "should I still be writing? Should I switch it up a bit? Am I boring my audience? What can I do to make things different?" Well fortunately for me, I've been blessed with readers from all of the world and support for my blog unlike any other. Therefore, I am proud to announce that this is my 100th post, 1st milestone, and it's going to focus on music...hip hop music, 2nd milestone.

903 Is Fine With Me :)

Well readers, where do I begin? How do I even write this post without getting emotional? If you know me well, then you know my hands are rapidly shaking as I type this post. I believe I have the hyperventilation & palpitations down to a minimum but my excitement is on high nonetheless. Ok, I'm now ready to write the following statement: COACH MIKE KRZYZEWSKI HAS PASSED BOB KNIGHT ON THE ALL-TIME MEN'S D1 LIST WITH 903 WINS!

Yes! Coach K is sitting on the highest throne as we, his beloved fans, celebrate his accomplishments. What an honor it has been to watch him coach since 2000. I may have stumbled upon my fandom late, but because of amazing footage I was always aware of what power the Duke Blue Devils possessed and the captain at the helm steering them to immortality. A bit much? Maybe, but there's no other way to describe how I feel. I'm a happy Cameron Crazie and what I wouldn't give to be celebrating with my fellow Crazies here & in Duhram.

To cap off Duke's 74- 69 win, Coach K and mentor, friend, and father figure Bob Knight shared a hug that brought the house down with a range of emotions. Friendships like theirs are hard to come by and this victory sealed their bonds further. We should all be so lucky to have people like that in our lives.

Are you guys still celebrating like I am? If so, I hope your energy lasts for days because the feeling that I'm feeling won't die for a lonnnnggg time. Congratulations Coach K on another wonderful feat. I'll continue to watch until the casket drops ;)

902 Reasons To Be Proud of Coach K!

Oh readers, it's the most wonderful time of the year. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Isn't that song usually reserved for Christmas?" and while it usually is, I'm dedicating this song to the return of college basketball. We college basketball fans are as diverse as we are passionate and we are more than thrilled. Every year, we believe that "this will be the year when my team wins it all!" and that sentiment hasn't changed....especially if you're a Duke Blue Devils fan.

This past spring, while we didn't repeat as champions, we did leave on great terms, Coach K had 900 victories and was two away from tying the record with mentor and friend Bob Knight. Fast forward to last night, 11-11-11, Duke garnered their first win of the season against Belmont and Coach K collected his 901st victory. We fans celebrated and prepared our game plan for the next game. We were more than ready.

Well, how do I say this without coming off like a psycho? I don't think there's another way therefore, COACH MIKE KRZYZEWSKI HAS TIED BOB KNIGHT ON THE ALL-TIME D1 MEN'S WINS LIST WITH 902 VICTORIES! That's right, with Duke defeating Presbyterian 95-55, this feat was accomplished. As usual, whenever my one of my life-long favorite teams or people accomplish anything great, my hands begin to shake, I get shortness of breath, and I need to be sedated to calm down my excitement. Today, nothing about my ritual will change.

As the season continues to blossom, I can be assured that Duke and Coach K will not rest on their laurels and continue to provide its fans with quality basketball. Congratulations to Coach K on 902 victories and I cannot wait until Tuesday, 11-15-11, as you take your place upon the throne with 903 victories. I am a Cameron Crazie and damn proud of it :)

Meet Me In STL: Clang Clang Clang With The Trophy!

Oh readers, there are two main emotions that I'm feeling tonight and they are sadness and joy. I am sad that the baseball season has officially come to a close, B-U-T I am proud to say this: CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS FOR WINNING THE 2011 WORLD SERIES!

Yes y'all the STL Cards have capped off an amazing baseball season with this victory & they can now kick off their shoes, relax their feet, and poison their liver with copious amounts of alcohol. While the team will be toasting to their win, they should also have a toast for those who had them written off in August. Oh yes, there was a period this season where the Cardinals were in the process of dying and their funeral arrangements were made. Luckily, they came back and fought for their lives. Scary huh?

Now that we're all caught up to speed and in a celebratory mood, let's give a warm thank you to the ENTIRE Cardinals team, managers included, for their "never-say-never" attitude & fighter spirit. A HUGE thank you to Albert Pujols for being an ever present force throughout this process. We hope to see you back in that red #5 next season. Lastly, thank you to the hometown hero, NLCS MVP, and WS MVP David Freese for his kick ass performance during Game 6 and Game 7. You deserve to have your shredded jersey in Cooperstown & more.

It's been my pleasure readers to provide you with baseball related reading material throughout the season. As we continue to watch our other sports let us soak in the night and rock to this. Oh, Cardinals and Cardinals fans, y'all can jam too since tonight everything is St. Louis inspired:

29 & Robinson Never Looked So Fine :)

Hello readers. Baseball is almost on its way out and while the Cardinals and the Rangers duke it out for the coveted World Series title, I think this is more than a great time to wish one of my favorite Yankees players, a guy considered to be my 2nd husband after Derek Jeter, the most amazing hitter in my opinion, and how can we forget the hottest 2nd baseman, Robinson Cano, a very special happy birthday. Ok, all together now, 1 2 3...HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBBIE!

Let's throw the confetti and pop the champagne as we celebrate this joyous day. Robinson is 29 today and baby, you've never looked so fine for 29! May today be filled with love, warmth, and happiness as you live to see another year. May God continue to bless and keep you & wishing you many more to come.

Game 5 Yankees Died & The Tigers Were Live...

Oh readers, it pains me to have to sit here and write a post of the nature coming up and because my heart is heavy, this will be a short one. Tonight, October 6, 2011, the New York Yankees lost Game 5 of the ALDS to the Detroit Tigers with a score of 3 - 2. Writing that sentence just took 10 years off of my life but I'll muster through to finish. If you're anything like me, you don't know how to feel right now. You want to kick, punch, and scream at everyone. For those of you who have done these actions already, make sure you're not sitting in a holding cell so you have the opportunity to read this.

A loss is earth shattering like no other thing in existence but witnessing a loss in person, man is it double the pain. Last year, I was in attendance for Game 3 of the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins and we all know how that ended....it ended in a sweep. Ahh, what I wouldn't give to go back into time. We Yankees fans are some tough cookies, and we'll get over this defeat and move on with our lives so, because I don't want to sulk and stew over spilled milk, I'll take this time to say thank you. Yes, you read that right.

I want to say thank you to the New York Yankees for consistently providing exciting baseball and for providing the facility to house us rowdy fans. Thank you Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, and Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada for your record breaking games and overall excellence. Jorge gets a shoutout because this may have been his last game ever in pinstripes and if it is, this is just a preview of what's to come in terms of his farewell post. Thank you to the all of the fans who have continued to pour their blood, sweat, and tears into this team. Whenever folks told us we're too "obsessed" or "crazy" for our unwavering love and admiration, we scoffed at the haters and kept on trucking. Lastly, thank you to all of my readers who have stuck by me and continued to read my over exuberant posts about the team I have loved since June 1995 and will continue to love until the casket drops.

I think it's about time that I end this post because my emotions are getting the best of me and the more I watch post game interviews, my blood boils so to properly close out the 2011 Yankees season, I'll end it with this.

I Don't Think You Really Know Robinson Cano!

Good evening fans. Before I settle down and take my NyQuil because I am battling a slight cold, I must release a few things that are bottled up inside of me. No, I'm not about about sneezes or coughs, I'm talking about the excitement that was tonight's ALDS game featuring the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers. Trust me guys, you'll want to stay tuned for what's coming up next.

Last night, September 30, 2011, the Yankees and Tigers were scheduled to play the first game of the ALDS and all of baseball and its fans were more than geared up. For the entire week, and the days leading up to the first pitch, we were glued to our local weathermen/woman dying to know the forecast and although there were projections for showers, the percentage of those showers were so low that we didn't care to grab a calculator and work out the probability of rain vs. no rain. Anything less than 50 percent is OK in our books and we proceeded with our lives. Well, Mother Nature had other plans and when I say she rained on the parade, believe me, she RAINED on the parade. The game was in a delay, my fever spiked, and I refused to take medicine because I knew the game would resume shortly. The rain never ceased, and the game was postponed until the next day. I had to take my medicine and call it a night.

All day, we fans waited for the clock to strike 8:37 so we could resume the game and once the pitches went underway, our chips were scooped into the dip, the beer caps were popped off, and we were ready for baseball. The Yankees were determined to make up the postponement to their fans and boy did they not disappoint. A double here, a walk there, and dominant pitching(thank you Ivan Nova) would give the Yankees a 4-1 lead. As usual with this team, sometimes we like to think that things couldn't get any better...right? Oh readers, haven't we learned already the Yankees always find a way to make it better.

With the bases loaded, and Phil Coke in to pitch, our amazing, power hitter, all around excellent 2nd baseman Robinson Cano did this:

Speechless huh? Yeah, I have no voice either.

Cano would continue with his monstrous hitting in the bottom of the 8th to give the Yankees a 9-1 lead. The Yankees would go on to win this game 9-3.

Well fans, I must be off to take my medicine, sitting on a fever too long can be dangerous. I will see back in the Bronx tomorrow night for Game 2.

Where Were You The Night of September 28, 2011?

I remember watching Fox about 7 years ago, I know I'm possibly dating myself, and like many of their marketing ploys, they were trying out many slogans to get fans to watch their channel during the MLB playoffs. I can't for the life of me remember what many of these slogans were because one stood out in particular and that magical phrase was: You can't script October. These four words packed so much in it that I don't believe Fox had any idea what they had created.

The above slogan has been used to define great moments in baseball since its patent and it has provided us fans with more than enough heartache and excitement than we could possibly bear. On September 28, 2011, this well known four word slogan would define a moment that will be remembered and passed down from generation to generation. Don't believe me, ask any and every sports fan tomorrow morning and watch the excitement in their voice.

Before the season began, MLB decided to implement a one-game playoff rule for those teams seeking entry into the playoffs, those who wind up in the Wild Card slot. Now fans, if you were like me, you were scratching your head because from your recollection, you have never seen 163 games played. But, like every diehard baseball fan, we accepted this rule, bitched about it a lot, but accepted it. Let's fast forward towards September.

Every September, fans and teams create this cloud of anxiety because the postseason is right around the corner. New York Yankees fans didn't have to worry because we clinched the division before the month concluded so all we had to do was sit back and watch everyone kill each other. We watched for days and shared many different emotions but on 9/28/11, something was strange in the air. Our televisions switched back and forth between the multitude of games because we were hoping for that one game playoff. Instead, we got something better.

The Braves/Phillies, the Cardinals/Astros, and the Red Sox/Orioles were battling for contention and where do we even begin? I think we just go to the results. The Phillies ousted Atlanta, the Cardinals trumped the Astros, and the RED SOX LOST TO THE BALTIMORE ORIOLES!

Yes, I'm excited about the last game because I loathe the Boston Red Sox. The rivalry runs deep and they shall not get any sympathy from me. Oh, how can I forget, the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Yankees which means they've earned a spot in the playoffs. I tip my hat off to them.

Ok readers, my head hurts from all of the excitement and my fingers are sore. I will end this post by saying congratulations to all of the teams who are in the playoffs and I shall catch you all Friday night when the Yankees play the Tigers in Game 1 of the ALDS!

The AL East Sounds Freakin' Sweet!

Good evening readers. The next statement that I'm about write is one that manyYankees fans have come to know and shall never get tired of reading. Are your ready? Are your sure? I'm trusting you now so here it goes: THE NEW YORK YANKEES HAVE CLINCHED THE AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST!

That's right folks, our favorite team has done what many thought wouldn't happen this season and Yankees fans far and wide are celebrating in their own little way. You all have come to know that I am emotional when it comes to my team and yes the tears are flowing. I am more than proud to type and I'll keep this short so I can celebrate as well but before that, I want to give a little recap and some shout outs to the team that made this possible.

How we came to this joyous moment is due in part to an amazing Wednesday of baseball. In a doubleheader with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees won both the afternoon and the night games with a score of 4-2(day game) and the same score again for the night game 4-2. This couldn't have been achieved with out the big bats of power hitter Robinson Cano and the clutch Jorge Posada. While the entire team contributed to this effort, these are the two men who shall be getting all the praise tonight. Thank you guys!

Well readers, it's time for me to celebrate and party hard. It's been a glorious season and I'll be blogging/seeing you all for the ALDS!

I Always Knew That Mariano Rivera's Favorite Number Was 602

Good evening readers. How are you feeling tonight? Did you have a rough day? Are you ready to go postal on your job and co-workers? If you've answered "yes" to any of the above questions then you are having another case of the Mondays. For those of you who are having a beyond extraordinary day, I can tell you why. It has nothing to do with the new love in your life, that promotion set in place, or that upcoming weekend trips with friends. No, your happiness stems from the fact that MARIANO RIVERA IS NOW THE ALL-TIME SAVES LEADER!

It seems like just yesterday, 1995 to be exact, that we began hearing the name Mariano Rivera. Like many people on the New York Yankees, Mariano was a young, lanky, hungry pitcher just trying to make a name for himself in this big city. In 1996, Mariano became the Yankees' setup man and in 1997 had the honor of being named the closer. It's not an easy gig closing out baseball games but there was something about Mariano in which we NY fans knew that we had just hit the jackpot. Things would never be the same.

With the Yankees and their impressive storybook dynasty throughout the 90s, Mariano Rivera was the key man in making sure that his team always acquired the win. Now, I know what you're thinking "there's no way in hell that anyone could be that great at his job for 17 years" and I say to you "sip on that haterade because baby it's true!"

How do I even continue to describe in detail the plethora of accolades and praise this man has amassed over the years? Is there even room in this post? This blogger has more than enough time and energy to go into detail but I want to reserve this portion of the post to let my emotions run deep and my fingers to type away.

As a fan of the Yankees since 1995, all I've come to know and selfishly expect is winning. My entire baseball fanhood has seen its fair share of heartache and joy but what keeps me coming back are the familiar faces and once known as the Core 4, it has now become the Core 3. These 3 men, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera or God Almighty may have kept my pockets low from the amount of money spent on tickets and memorabilia(it was so well worth it) but my spirits were always high. Thank you guys.

So, to Mariano Rivera: thank you for your humility, for your undying passion, unwavering grit, and for always keeping us, your fans, at the forefront in your life. Thank you for reminding us in a very subtle manner that the start of the game can be bumpy and you either strikeout or hit a home run, but it's how you choose to end whether it be a 1-2-3 shutout or a completely blown save. Thank you for gracing us fans with a piece of calm and tranquility. Thank you to your wife and children for never scorning us and cursing us because we share a place in your heart.

Before the rambling begins because of my joyous emotions, I'll end this piece by simply saying Congratulations on 602 saves Mariano. I look forward to seeing 700 Sandman ;)

All Together Now: Hug...And Then Sucker Punch!

Before we begin the recap, let's give ourselves a round of applause because this is the first ever boxing post since this blog has been active. There's only one monumental event that could ever warrant a boxing post and that is due in part to Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr.

You know the name, you know the flair, you know the world records, and you love the controversy which is what Pretty Boy Floyd/Money Mayweather always brings to to the ring whenever he's fighting an opponent. Tonight's match was against boxing's gritty, hard worker Victor Ortiz. We fans were treated to the hype surrounding to this match with HBO critically acclaimed 24/7 in which Mayweather bragged, boasted, used his millions as a telephone with friend 50 cent, fought with his father, repeatedly, and also opened up old wounds. Ortiz won fans over with his back story of abandonment by both parents and clips of him training with his not-so-much affluent team. The lines of fanaticism were drawn after 2 episodes and fans knew who they wanted to win.

The night was upon us and the festivities commenced. Mayweather looked strong in the beginning and Ortiz counteracted with a few punches of his own. After a few more punches, Mayweather seemed to be getting the upper hand on his opponent and in the blink of an eye, something happened. Omg...could it be...did I see this correctly...Victor Ortiz kept his head down and headbutted Mayweather. That's right! HEADBUTTED. My jaw was on the floor readers because to violate the first rule of boxing in a blatant manner is something that I cannot let slide. As Ortiz and Mayweather hugged, Floyd proceeded to throw more dirt on the situation by sucker punching Ortiz! WHAT DID WE JUST WITNESS?

Call this fight over because the sheer disrespect and foul play on both parts was just too much for us fans to handle. I am disgusted by both Floyd and Victor, although the fight was entertaining, because so many of us were left disappointed...especially those of us who paid for PPV.

We'll be talking about this fight for some days and all I can end this first ever boxing post with is: Man...I love sports!

Mariano's 600th Save = Swag on Swag on Swag

As baseball season approaches its end, there will be countless montages and videos dedicated to all the water cooler moments that made our love for the game downright/borderline obsessive. Included in the reminiscent reels will be Derek Jeter's 3000th hit and Mariano Rivera's 600th career save. Yes folks, you read that last part correctly. Every Yankees fan's lord and savior Mariano Rivera garnered his 600th save against the Seattle Mariners with some clutch performance help from no other than Russell Martin and fans home and abroad have got to be feeling the same way I am....effing ecstatic!

Trevor Hoffman leads the league in career saves and the magic number for Mariano to become the all-time saves leader is 2. 2 has always been a favorable number for myself so there's no doubt that 602 won't become my new favorite number. I am more than certain as well that 602, painted in classic white and blue, shall be tattooed on the arms and legs of die hard Yankees fans....probably myself included!

Congratulations Mariano, you have come to represent strength, passion, and calm for us fans for the past 16 years. Thank you for your humility, and always stepping up and showing out for your fans. I can't wait to write an extensive piece on you and your lustrous career once you get to lucky number 602.

Also, congrats to the Yankees for picking up another victory winning the game 3-2.

Welcome Home NFL! We've Missed You!

I am so excited that the NFL season is back that I don't even know where to begin so let's roll the clip!

When it's difficult to write down how I'm feeling on a particular topic, I try to find alternatives. In finding these alternatives, the likely winner to help me sum up my emotions is a video. Well, like the title suggests, the NFL season is underway and we have fans are more than happy because we've been put through the ringer and our emotions for the sport has been put to the test. We all remember the infamous "NFL lockout" and how we truly believed our Sundays would cease to exist right? Well thank our lucky stars that the league, unions, and players could reach an adult agreement so that we can get back to ignoring our girlfriends/boyfriends.

I'll keep this short because I don't want to suck all of the energy out of the room but I will say congratulations to my New York Jets on their kickoff win against the Dallas Cowboys with a score of 27- 24. I look forward to great things from this team and I wish every team in the NFL the best of luck this season.

Alarmed that there's no recap? Well don't be because starting next Sunday, the usual play by play shall be documented and commented on.

State Farm Gets My Likability Vote

With emotions running rampant today to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11th there's a fine line between expressing sincere emotions for those who have lost their lives and trying to seemingly profit off of this horrific attack. There has been much debate about this matter and while the banter continues, I have to take this time out to say thank you to State Farm for putting together an awesome & heartfelt tribute to this day. The best way to sum up the emotions I felt for State Farm's endeavors is by watching their commercial that has been airing all day.

May we honor those who have lost their lives and look forward to a brighter & prosperous future.

Derek Jeter's 5 Year Plan Doesn't Work With Minka

This post is for all the men and women who I shall break down into three categories: the haters, the supporters, and those who just didn't care. You'll find out which category you belong to as we get in depth with this post. Sources have confirmed that Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly have ended their 3 year relationship(they were together since May 2008). While no specific reasons were mentioned, it has been deduced to the fact that they both have increasingly hectic work schedules.

It's not in my nature to lie to you readers so I will proudly admit that I've spent some time being the ultimate hater offering very little support. Many of us women have been in love with Derek for YEARS and because women are known to be territorial, the minute we hear that a new woman has come into his life, we're ready to put on those boxing gloves and give her the beating of a lifetime. I was one of those women and couldn't find a nice thing to say about Minka. Men, I know you too harbored a bit of jealousy towards Derek when it first reported that he was blessed to be dating Minka. So, how do I feel about the split? You'll see.

As a person who is compassionate, mindful of the situation, and have been through a break up, I know that this is a difficult time for both parties involved although their split was amicable. Likewise, it does me no good to sit and stew in hatred over a woman who doesn't know I exist nor will probably never know who I am. Ladies & gentlemen, I'm talking to you as well. Don't spend your time gloating on this break up, it blocks your blessings and it reveals an ugly side of you.

To my supporters of this relationship since day 1, continue to project your hopes and optimism towards a reunion and never lose that fighting spirit even if this split is forever. To those who could have cared less, keep moving forward in your lives and treat this news as you would any other piece.

I wish Derek and Minka nothing but the best as they progress and grow older. May they both find love and happiness and never give up on love. Also, may we haters find a happy medium when our favorite stars decide to settle down with people who aren't us.

Greatness Comes In 3's!

Whenever I'm excited about a team or a game, it becomes difficult to sit down and write because my heart is pumping and my hands are shaking. There have been a few times in which this has happened and it's happening right now. This behavior can only be attributed to one team and my readers, if you know me well, you know that team is the New York Yankees. I'm more than ready to dig in so let's begin:

"The New York Yankees are synonymous with greatness, excellence, and history". We all know we've heard this quote said in many different ways from many different people and I must say, it's more than true. Today, the Yankees finished the 3rd game in their series against the Oakland Athletics and after the emotional defeat by the A's for the first 2 games, we fans were praying for a miracle, praying for a way to hold on to our dignity, and praying for a way to continue to hold our heads held up high. Baby were we in for a treat.

The A's started out dominating against Phil Hughes and continued to beat up on Cory Wade finally garnering a 7-1 lead against the Yanks. Sitting through a dismal rain delay and then witnessing this tragedy just added insult to injury. It seemed as if all hope was lost until the magical 5th inning.

Had the rain decided to start up again in the 5th, the A's would have mustered up a sweep against the Yankees as it would have been called an "official game" but, luck was on our side and something great happened. With the bases loaded, the man who can wield a bat like no other, Robinson Cano hit a monster grand slam that woke the Bronx up and put us one run behind, 7-6. To say our blood was pumped up is an understatement. It gets better.

In the 6th, the Yanks managed to have the bases loaded again and Russell Martin hit a grand slam. The Yanks now lead 10-7 and the notion that we were dead flew out of the window. There was no stopping us now. By the 7th, we were steamrolling past Oakland as we coasted to a 16-7 lead, then 16-8 lead, and after another run had scored, we were leading 17-8. You couldn't tell us anything.

Now, one would think after a score like that, the Yanks would ease up a bit but that's not how our boys play and in the 8th, with the bases loaded again, New York's MVP Curtis Granderson came up to the plate and shall I say it? Would you even believe me? Alright here goes, Curtis hits a GRAND SLAM! 3 grand slams in one game put the already storied franchise in the history books again as the ONLY team in MLB history to hit 3 grand slams in one game!(score was now 21-8) To top it off, Andruw Jones hit a solo shot that gave the Yankees the ultimate 22-8 lead.

The final score of this game was 22-9. I think this DEFINITELY made up for the previous disasters called games. Our boys truly know how to show up and show out.

Congratulations to the Yankees who have mastered the art of knowing how to make their fans smile and have 911 on speed dial. We wouldn't have it any other way. See y'all on the road.

Another wonderful year has gone by and we find ourselves in August. A month relatively known for its massive heatwaves, this month is also known for its lineup of birthdays including mine. Thanks For Watching The Robinson Cano Show!

Tonight was the HR Derby and all the stars were out to swing for the fences. Both the American and National Leagues were stacked with a bevy of talent just waiting to make their mark on the game and we fans got into the zone and put our game faces on. Let's recap some of tonight's amazing highlights.

With hitters, turned this year's team captains, such as David "Big Papi" Ortiz and Prince Fielder, we were more than certain that they would be launching balls left and right out of the park. While their swings were monstrous, two stars who really came to be seen were New York Yankee superstar second baseman Robinson Cano and Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. There's no way these two could possibly get the crowd exceedingly hyped right? Wrong!

In the first round, Adrian hit an impressive 9 home runs while Cano hit 8 with one of the homers reaching 472 feet. That's more than amazing not to mention his father Jose Cano was his pitcher. It was from then on we started to believe that the night could in fact be worthwhile. After watching other hitters such as Matt Holiday, Rickie Weeks, and Matt Kemp attempt at breaking the gates open, we zeroed our attention in towards the big four: Gonzalez, Cano, Ortiz, and Fielder. Things soon began to heat up.

Both Ortiz and Fielder had to play a bit of catch up so we narrowed in on Gonzalez and Cano. Boy oh boy did Robinson Jose Cano put on a show. We all remember how he had to withdraw from the Derby last year because of a back injury. This year, there was no stopping him. In the second round,with Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin, and David Robertson cheering him on, Cano hit 12 more beautiful shots to bring his total to 20 home runs. The crowd went wild just as us fans at home were going bananas! Gonzalez belted out 20 as well. Time for the final round.

In the last round, Gonzalez continued the show by launching 11 homers without seeming as if he was out of gas. Cano had his work cut out for him but he wasn't worried about that because he beasted, yes beasted, the last round to take the ENTIRE derby with 12 homers in the round.

Oye! Cano! Congratulations on winning the derby. You deserved it kid! The night belonged to you because you lit the place up. Thank you for showing up and showing out. Also, congrats Gonzo because you were a delight as well.

3,000 Ways Derek Jeter Can Make You Smile!

As I sit here to begin to write this post, I have to stop and breathe because the more I write to the point of this piece, my body begins to shake because it cannot contain the happiness and euphoria I feel inside. Every word leaves me close to hospitalization so before 911 has to carry me out on a stretcher, I will come out and say HAPPY 3000TH HIT DEREK JETER!

Yes, Derek Sanderson Jeter, face of New York/New York Yankees, husband to millions of women, myself included/son/brother/loyal best friend/boyfriend/professional/downright amazing man hit his 3000th hit today at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have been his everything for the past 17 years and although it seemed as if this beautiful marriage almost saw a divorce during the off season, the love and admiration exhibited on both ends is something to be appreciated. I know I may be rambling but I'm too enamored to write coherently. I'm too in awe to think, I just want to grab Derek, squeeze him tight and never let this moment go. But, because I love my readers, I will stay on course.

As if the day wasn't already etched in greatness because of the 3000th hit, Derek continued this wonderful day by going an impressive 5 for 5 and almost hitting for the cycle. Once again, you read right. Derek garnered two singles(one being the game winning single), a double, and a home run. Talk about seizing the day! Derek's last single in the 8th would give the Yankees a 5-4 lead and sealed the deal for a victory.

Another monumental moment was when Yankees fan Christian Lopez caught the 3000th hit which was a home run, on his birthday might I add, and in true altruistic fashion didn't negotiate/haggle with the Yankees or Derek but in fact graciously returned the ball back to the captain. As reward for his humble nature, he was treated to Championship Suite tickets for the remainder of the season up to an including the World Series as well as other amenities. It pays to not block your blessings kids.

Wherever Derek is and whatever he's doing, I hope he takes a moment to stare out into the abyss, place his hands on his hips, and say "Holy shit....I did it. I, mothereffing Derek Jeter have 3003 hits. Damn I've got it going on". While hey may or may not use expletives and be completely self centered, he will revel in this moment. If that doesn't work, he can recite the chorus from Nicki Minaj's "Moment For Life", "I wish that I can have this moment for life...for life...for life...cause in the moment I just feel so alive...alive..." Congratulations Derek!

Happy Birthday Derek Jeter!

Writing With Whitney bore its first post on June 27, 2010. Words couldn't and even today cannot express the sheer happiness I felt writing that first post. In the midst of the excitement that was the first week of the blog, I slapped myself on the forehead because I decided to create the blog the day after one of the most greatest and memorable dates known to mankind...Derek Sanderson Jeter's birthday (Derek was born on June 26, 1974). Clearly that decision still haunts until this day but today, June 26, 2011 is my redemption for I will use this space to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEREK JETER!

The love I have for Derek Jeter spans beyond his gorgeous blue green eyes, scattered freckles on his nose, pearly white teeth and 6 foot 3 inches 180 pound frame, no, it's something much more than that. I first became enamored with Jeter in June 1995. I didn't know much about love but what I was certain of was the fact that I was 7 and my heart was pounding fast. That was me thinking "who is that man? He is cute!". For the past 16 years, that love has never died and I'll be the first to shout from the rooftop, "He is my husband and we've been married for over 10 years". Over that span of 10+ years, millions of women would go on to profess the same sentiment.

While I can sit here and dispute their claims, I'll keep this post argument free and just say Happy 37th Birthday Derek Jeter. Enjoy this day, live it up, soak up every moment, and revel in the fact that your fans love you, appreciate you, and are grateful for your existence and your hard work. Thank you

Just when you thought the basketball madness had ended with the Dallas Mavericks being crowned the 2011 NBA Champions, yes folks are STILL talking about that, something happened that added to the wonderment of the National Basketball Association, the NBA Draft. Players from every college team across the United States, sat with family, friends, and fans alike to await the announcement of where they would start their professional careers. As if I wasn't excited to see where this array of talent were heading, my heart suffered near palpitations...times 3!

Among the talent being fussed over and ultimately drafted, 3 of my Duke Blue Devils had the honor of being drafted tonight: Kyrie Irving, Nolan Smith, and Kyle Singler. Needless to say, I was overcome with joy because every academic year, my heart and my schedule belongs to Duke. 2010 NCAA champions Nolan Smith, who was the 21st pick in the 1st round, will be heading to Portland while the 2nd round 3rd pick Kyle Singler will be headed to the Detroit Pistons. Freshman phenom Kyrie Irving was an impressive 1st round 1st pick who will be going to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I am more than proud of what these guys have accomplished under the tutelage of Coach K and I truly wish them and EVERYONE who was drafted tonight nothing but the best. In the hopes that there isn't an NBA lockout next season, I look forward to seeing these men play and showing off their talents.

Congratulations to players who represented the NCAA well & knock them dead y'all!

You Know You've Heard About UConn

College is comprised of 4 amazing years filled with friends, parties, academics, possible love interests and sports. Sports for a college is a huge deal and if you're lucky enough to attend a school with a Division 1 Men's and Women's athletic teams, then you're in for an added treat. Every school year, students buy season tickets to watch their favorite teams play for a chance at the coveted NCAA title, and while it would seem that college football reigns supreme in all schools, let's not forget about college basketball.

Fans of college basketball dress up, paint their faces, and cheer in the spirit of school pride. There's nothing like watching your team battle for months for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. A tournament filled with upsets, tears, and victories, it never disappoints and this year was no exception. We saw a bountiful of old favorites, Duke for me, and new teams fight for a spot in the big dance....the Finals. This year, we were graced with the opportunity to see the Butler Bulldogs play against the UConn Huskies and Butler was back for blood after being embarrassed last year. Unfortunately, they had to contend with the bold Bronxite Kemba Walker and his clan of warriors.

After a back and forth match, UConn took the game and ran with it and was crowned the National Champions. This is certainly a huge win for the state of Connecticut and the borough of the Bronx as we celebrate this fantastic victory. Congratulations to both teams for their effort and for UConn on their win. The college basketball season has come to a close and I look forward to seeing everyone again in September.

You Can Pinch Me 46 Times And I Still Won't Believe Andy's Gone

Most of us have big families with multiple aunts, uncles, and of course cousins and with this big family comes the many options in having that one brother, sister, or cousin that winds up being your best friend. The Yankee family is comprised of millions of members but for every fan, there's one player that's a best friend. For me, it's Derek Sanderson Jeter but for others it's Andrew Eugene Pettitte. You've spent every waking moment looking at, reading about, and falling in love with Andy. Every season, right before April, you made sure you had enough in your "Yankee Fund" account to see Andy pitch in person. Thing seemed good until the day your best friend broke your heart. Today, February 3, 2011, Andrew Pettitte shattered the hearts of his many best friends by announcing his retirement from baseball.

If you're like me, you still haven't fully comprehended the fact that Andy won't be in pinstripes this season. You won't hear that Southern gentleman's accent, you won't pierce into those big brown warming pools called his eyes. Funny thing about those eyes is that one minute they're calming and the next they are sending sharp pains to your heart...they're deadly. Every movement, every sound, every smile, every curse word that encompassed Andy will be leaving the Bronx and permanently settling in Texas. I want to scream, I want to cry, I want to be supportive but the separation is too real and too much to bear right now. So fans, where do we go from here? How do we cope? Moreover, how do we prepare for his press conference tomorrow? The answers to those questions aren't so cut and dry and I haven't thoroughly answered these for myself. I do have something in the form of bullets for what we can all do. Want to hear/read them? I know you want to.

The season is nearly a month away and the Yankees have to continue to uphold the principles of perseverance and excellence which means to crumble now will be bad business. As an Economist, personal issues take a back seat to remaining in the black every quarter. They can grieve Andy's retirement but they have to play the balancing act with being excited over new prospects and keeping current players happy. There's a lot on the emotional plate of the Yankees right now and God only knows what the owners are really thinking behind closed doors. As I re-read what I just wrote, I'm a little glad that we fans aren't the organization so to speak but just an extension of it. We can all grab our Kleenex tissues and cry because our best friend has packed up and shipped out.

Call me crazy but I only used my Kleenex for roughly 5 minutes because I don't want to mourn his retirement but celebrate the 16 years he gave us. Call me crazy guys but I think this is how we have to cope with the situation. Dwelling in the sorrow only makes us sadder and speeds up the aging process. When you replay the last 16 years, that should overshadow 24 hours of bad news. Also, are we really that selfish? We were the best friend, brother, father, mother, and sometimes wife to a man who legitimately had all of those members to love and be loved back from. It hit me today that for 16 years we all cherished a man who left his wife and 4 children in Texas to make me smile. We played the "mistress" to a man who wore a wedding ring and said his vows before God while his children spent birthdays, parent teach conferences, and school plays wishing their father was home and not entertaining thousands each night. That is purely unacceptable so once again call me crazy but I'm kind of glad Andy has decided to step out of the spotlight.

As we all watch the press conference tomorrow, I hope we can learn to value what's truly important in life. Ok ok so it won't be easy watching Dandy Andy say his goodbyes but we're classy folks and after all he's done for us, the least we can do is watch, cry a little, and applaud his being. I'm going to miss you Andy but I'll feel a little easier knowing that 4 children have their father again and a wife has her husband to hold and yell at for not cleaning the dishes. Andrew Eugene Pettitte, born June 15, 1972 in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, I wish you nothing but the best. Y'all come back now and visit us up here North sometimes....it'll do us crazed Yankee fans some good.

What The Folk Just Happened?

Football Saturday, yes Saturday, was one for the ages. The evening started with the defending Superbowl champion Saints playing the I-never-would-have-thought-I-would-see-them-in-the-playoffs Seattle Seahawks. If we all slept on the below .500 team before then you were in a rude awakening because Seattle kicked ass and defintiely took names. New Orleans lost to Seattle with a score of 41-36. Onward to the Jets game.

The New York Jets took things a little personal against Indianapolis as they were ready to grind it out for a victory. Let's just say they didn't disappoint. The back and forth tempo of this game left everyone on edge and praying that their bets be fulfilled. There's no need to recap the game because if you saw it, you're shaking and if you didn't then catch the highlights my dear fans. I have two words though and that is Nick Folk. Nick Folk redeemed himself from earlier in the season for kicking the winning 32-yard FG and sending the Jets to New England.

I'll be with my boys as they take on Brady and the Pats. I have faith in my team because like I've been saying all season: Jets Rule Everything Around Me! Good job tonight boys!

How Old Is Coach K? 880?

Last night the Duke Blue Devils battled UNC...ok not the famed UNC Tar Heels of Chapel Hill but UNC-Greensboro Spartans in what was an enjoyable game nonetheless. While the score of 108-62 was a gift in itself for Duke and its fans the night really belonged to something bigger...Coach K's new record. Yes folks Mike Krzyzewski is now 2nd on the all time wins list putting him 22 wins behind Bobby Knight!

With the pace that the blue devils are on Coach K can take the coveted #1 spot some time in March which is dependent on his team's run during March Madness. The ever humble Coach K didn't dote on his accomplishment but rather offered this piece of commentary as seen in The Greensboro News & Record, "I talk to Coach Knight about once a week, but we don't talk about number of wins. We talk first of all about whatever he's shooting at that time, wherever he's hunting. I always ask him 'Who, um, what did you shoot?' And hopefully it's not somebody, it's something".

Well said from a guy who has captured North Carolina's heart and of course mine. Congratulations once again Coach K!

Top 10 Things I Hope Santa Brought Me This Christmas

My oh my look how time flew! Christmas is here which means the new year is a week away and while we're all excited and anxious to let 2010 rest and welcome in 2011, we're clamoring to open up those presents we've wanted since January. Some of you are pleased with what Santa has given you and others are scrunching up their faces. Well either way be thankful and be grateful so here goes....the top 10 things I hope Santa brought me this Christmas:

10. A long/peaceful vacation- I've worked hard this year and after exhausting time, sleep, and sometimes funds to ensure that my students were successful in school, it's time for me to let my luscious brunette hair down and start it up....vroom vroom...start it up.

9. A higher credit score- Christmas isn't really about over indulging on gifts and yet manufacturers have suckered us into carrying 5 or more bags out of the store just to feel better about ourselves. As an Economist I understand the game and yet I've fallen into a small trap that might have hurt my credit score. So, in the spirit of giving, giving love, gifts, warmth, etc., Santa can get my credit score back to the 800s.

8. Extended Optimism- This year has really been bountiful with silver linings and it was all made possible because of me always looking at the glass half full. I pray that Santa blesses me with extended optimism because there's nothing like carrying a smile on your face during rough times to truly make any bleak situation brighter.

7. A playoff appearance from the New York Knicks- well who would have thought that the NY Knicks would capture NY's heart and the world's attention again...for the good. The NYK have shut the haters down with their amazing teamwork and winning capabilities. Jersey sales have sky rocketed, well mainly Stoudemire's jersey, and New York is bleeding orange and blue. I look forward to amazing things from this team.

6. The recession to be over- while we're almost out of this crippling depression, it can only get worse before it gets better. I hope the past 2 years have taught you all the value of paying your bills on time and truly studying the ins and outs of your banks so you won't swindled into sub-prime mortgages and tapping into your home equity.

5. The Duke Blue Devils being NCAA Champs again- March Madness this year was by far the most enjoyable in a LONG time. This year Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler led the blue devils to another NCAA title in 9 years...yes, the last time they won was in 2001...and the universe was right again. This year, Santa can help Duke repeat and win the title again!

4. Best wishes for my friends and family- It's my greatest pleasure in life seeing those I love succeed and win and this year the blessings were abundant as they continued to climb the ladder of success. For Christmas, I hope Santa has given them all that they've asked for and continues to shower them well into 2011.

3. 2011 Yankees Opening Day tickets- I had the pleasure of going to Opening Day 2009 which was the christening of the new Yankee Stadium and boy did I have a BLAST! Being the diehard Yankee fan that I am, I hope Santa got me tickets....I've been a very good girl =]

2. Longevity so I can ring in 2011- I don't know about you but with the constant hustle and bustle of life, sometimes we don't realize just how important our lives are until something tragic happens. About two weeks ago a dear friend of mine Steven Smith died at the age of 24 and I've been trying to recover ever since. No more hip hop tweets, no more ragging on Duke tweets, no more making my nights calm and peaceful, and no one to celebrate Christmas with or ring in 2011 with. I hope Santa has given me extended life so no one else has to mourn another life gone too soon.

1. The Jets winning the Superbowl- New York is a trophy town, mainly the Yankees, but once we fans have chosen our teams to root for, we're stuck to them like glue. We eat, breathe, and sleep our teams and we might even sell our children to see them win a championship. I have no children but seeing as both myself and my dad are Jets fans he might sell me to see them win again. All I'm asking is that Santa help Sanchez, Holmes, and Rexy Rex Ryan win so I attend the parade chanting "J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!"

For Coach K...3 Is A Magic Number

Tonight, the Duke Blue Devils faced the Bradley Braves and like every other game, the Blue Devils came out swinging...or should I say shooting. Let's dig in:

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils were all over Bradley as they had to stop at nothing to score because superstar phenom Kyrie Irving sat out due to an injury. Seniors Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler continued to prove why they're the overall leaders on the team with their impressive play and great shots. As Duke and Bradley approached the half, Duke lead 32-18. At one point, I questioned whether Bradley had even stepped on to the bus to ride to Duhram because of their non-existent defense. Bradley was clearly there but they were no match for the fiery devils.

After the half, Duke continued to play great basketball and when the clocked finally stopped, Duke had won with a score of 83-48. Not only did Duke improve their record to becoming 9-0 but the most AMAZING feat happened: Coach Mike Krzyzewski has passed Adolph Rupp on the "All Time Wins" list to take a comfortable seat at 3rd. Coach K needs 3 more wins to pass Dean Smith for a total of 880 wins and to take the coveted 2nd place spot. I'm so excited I can barely type.

I hope you all had a wonderful night watching our beloved Duke Blue Devils. I know I'm a die hard Cameron Crazie and I look forward to watching them on Saturday.

Top 10 Things I'm Thankful For This Thanksgiving

As we gather to celebrate another Thanksgiving, I feel as if this is another year where being reflective has much more meaning than it has in the past. While I'm sure many of you have taken more than your fair share of hours to sit and be grateful, my time for reflection is 365 days a year, I can't help but think the more you hear the unemployment rate rise by another percent, the more your hand rests under your chin and you sigh. Well here's a little secret....I do it too. So let's begin with the Top 10 Things I'm Thankful For This Thanksgiving:

10. Loyalty- Now you may be scratching your head but hear me out. Loyalty is hard to come by today when people are working and doing for themselves. The "me me me" attitude has overshadowed camaraderie, working together, and sticking together. I'm thankful that the people I work with and the friends I have are all about sticking together and not throwing one another under the bus.

9. Optimism- It takes a lot of work to consistently find the silver lining in every situation and while I haven't been perfect in always being 100% positive, I've tried my best to always think that there's a reason for everything. So far, I think it's done me well to keep smiling.

8. Wisdom- I've seen a lot and have encountered life changing moments and while the majority of what I've seen and encountered were because of what you all may call "mistakes", I call them unnecessary/necessary events. What made them unnecessary was their timing but what made them essential was that I was able to see past the event and analyze it for what it really was. So, I haven't made mistakes but I've made some unnecessary/necessary happenings.

7. Opportunity- The opportunity to love, be loved, and blessed is sometimes a luxury that many can't afford. I make it my mission in life to exhaust all energy to give back. I'm thankful for the energy I find to do this.

6. Health- I couldn't exhaust energy to give back if I didn't take care of my immune system. It's quite the routine eating healthy, getting 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and I try to achieve this and am I'm proud of the results. So, I'm thankful that my body has survived the chicken pox when I was 5 and continue to survive the common colds I get. Yes, I've never gotten the flu, broken any bones, etc so I hope to continue that streak.

5. Education- Those who know me well can tell you how I am a champion of education. All I talk about is how to reform and revamp the school system and how I'm working on writing a proposal to Congress. It's clear that my passion for all is the ability to succeed in an academic setting. I was blessed to have received a great education from kindergarten to college and I wish that for ALL children.

4. Shelter- Now while this may be #4, it still holds high importance. I'm thankful for the fact that I can rest and wake up in the same bed...in the same apartment that I've known for nearly 22 years. Many can't say they had such stability but whatever the situation...refer back to #9 and find your silver lining.

3. Religion- The past 2 years have shaken the spiritual and religious core of folks. Having to make decisions between paying the rent/mortgage and feeding the family really made people question their level of faith and belief in God. I've had my moments where my faith packed up and left and I'm proud my faith returned. I know without my belief in God and my spirituality that I would be completely broken.

2. Family- I'm certainly not a one dimensional woman, there are definitely many angles that make up who I am. I attribute that to my family. I'm thankful for their loving, caring, blunt, outrageous, and downright sincere nature. Without that array of qualities to choose from, I would be bland and boring...eww those words are nasty.

1. Love- There's no way I could have the ability to reflect on anything if I didn't reserve a huge chunk of heart for love. The ability to love and in turn be loved back is indescribable. You truly have to experience it to begin to help me define it. There's no greater feeling than telling someone "I love you" and having them saying it back and hearing the genuine emotion. I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

Well there you guys have it. These are things I'm grateful for. I would love to hear what you guys are grateful for this Thanksgiving...after you find the energy from stuffing your faces of course.

Oh Let Me Count The 800 Ways...To Win That Is!

Tonight the Duke Blue Devils faced the Kansas State Wildcats in what was the championship game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic and boy oh boy did my little devils not disappoint. Duke held commanding leads throughout the night to win the game 82-68 as well as the Championship. While I jumped for joy at another incredible win, the real moment to celebrate was the fact that revered coach Mike Krzyzewski won his 800th game with Duke! Claps claps and more claps for you Coach K as you climb the ladder to beating Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, and dare I say it...Bob Knight...

Congratulations boys...you made mama proud!

What A Folkin' Miracle!

Today's game between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns was by far one for the ages...or at least one for the Sundays. Brace yourself folks because what I'm about to recap will have your adrenaline pumping. Let's dig in:

The Browns out a score on the board early with a field goal to give themselves a 3-0 lead. As the first quarter moved along, the Jets gained some leverage and Nick Folk, his name will be dragged through the mud in the post, kicked a beautiful FG to even the game out 3-3. With nearly 16 seconds left in the 1st quarter, Cleveland scored a touchdown and the Browns led 10-3. Not too much damage done right? Wrong! Nick Folk missed his first FG of the game that would give have out the Jets back 10-6. Ok ok that was a little harsh...let's move on to the 2nd.

In the 2nd quarter, the Jets made some noise as Cotchery scored a TD to even up the game 10-10. Cleveland answered back with a FG of their own and the score was 13-10. As the quarter was coming to a close, the Jets found an opening and scored another TD for a 17-13 lead. Us fans were either in the mood for a drink or.....HALFTIME!

We're back from the half and this quarter left me ready to throw and everything at my television...besides me throwing curses and insults. Bot the Jets and the Browns looked clueless and just when I thought I could find solace in my trusty kicker, Nick Folk missed his 2nd field goal. Yes...you read that right. On to the 4th we go with the score still 17-13.

Nick Folk seemed to redeem himself by kicking a FG which gave the Jets a 20-17 lead. The Browns then answered back with a TD to tie the game 20-20. There was no way that Nick Folk could miss a 3rd straight goal in this game but low and behold...Folk missed his 3rd FG and as I collapsed my head into my hands, I prayed for something. I prayed for a miracle. Overtime was my miracle.

The Jets were on the brink of a loss until a momentum shift happened, the Browns fumbled the ball. Phew...it was safe to breathe. But, here comes the kicker, no not Nick Folk, but a positive one. With 16 seconds left, Mark Sanchez passed the ball to Santonio Holmes and Holmes brought the ball home for a TOUCHDOWN! Jets win! Jets win!

The Jets won the game 26-20.

Jets....don't ever scare me like that again!

Gold Gloves Come To Those Who Wait

The baseball season is over and while one award has been handed out, the San Francisco Giants are champions of baseball, fans have been awaiting to hear the winners of the other coveted awards. Well today, the Gold Glove Awards for the American League have been announced and it looks like Robinson Cano is leading the pack. Wait...does this mean what I think it means...Robinson Cano will win his first GG Award! Sweet! Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit the good, bad, and the ugly side of Robinson Cano's fielding.

Remember when Cano came up in 2005 and we were all a little weary of his skills? Remember in 2006 and 2007 when all of our suspicions were warranted because Robinson Cano went through a case of the "lazies"...laziness to be exact. Cano's fielding and effort was abysmal and with constant hammering from Joe Torre, Larry Bowa, and somehow himself, Cano turned that around and from the 2009 season onward, he has been an unstoppable force. Now, he makes fielding look like a walk in the park...yes a baseball pun =].

Congratulations to Cano and the other AL winners, including two other Yankees, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira. You guys did well this year and I hope you continue to make us all proud next season.

Jets Rule Everything Around Me!

What a way to start a Sunday off by bleeding green...gang green that is. This afternoon viewers were treated to a game between the New York Jets and Detroit Lions. After a crippling loss last week for the Jets, we fans couldn't bear another loss, let alone a loss at home. Let's dig in to see if gang green held on to infect the competition.

In the first quarter, the Lions came out roaring, yes roaring...stay with me, as Stafford threw a 10 yard pass to Pettigrew to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. The quarter was not kind to the Jets as they couldn't find their footing. The players and the fans just wanted it to be over. We asked and our wish was granted. On to the 2nd quarter.

In the 2nd, our very own Nick Folk kicked a pretty FG and the Jets were on board 7-3. The quarter wouldn't be over until Braylon Edwards scored on a B-E-A-utiful 74 yeard pass from Sanchez. The Jets finally had the lead at 10-7. HALFTIME!

Coming back for the half, it seemed as if the Lions found their inner Leos and were out to kill their prey. In the 3rd, Detroit was up 13-10 and once again, we fans asked for the quarter to be over and it was granted. On to the 4th.

In the 4th, things became interesting. Detroit managed to score a TD and took control to lead 20-10. Then the Jets came back to score and the game became 20-17. Now, here comes the magic, with nearly nothing left on the clock, Nick Folk kicked a sweet FG to tie the game 20-20...OVERTIME!

San Fran Didn't Stop Believing

Congratulations San Francisco Giants you're the 2010 World Series Champions and not only is San Fran elated, baseball is elated as well...yes even us Yankee fans proudly admitted that we were rooting for you. Our tweets were dedicated to you and your team. Our approval of you guys even went far beyond the fact that we wanted the Texas Rangers to lose, we grew to appreciate and respect the hustle and grind, grustle, you guys put into your crafts.

Congratulations to Edgar Renteria for being named the 2010 World Series MVP.

The final score was 3-1 in San Fran's favor.

It's only fitting to end this baseball season with some beautiful words of inspiration from a group called Journey. This should provide some hope for all the teams in 2011:

The Heat Looked Cold & The Lakers Looked Hot

For those fans whose patience level is too low for baseball, they wait 6 months six months until basketball season returned. Well NBA fans, last night your wish came true. To kick off the season, TNT had a doubleheader with games starting off with the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics and then the LA Lakers vs. Houston Rockets. Let's start with Miami.

Ok so I'm sick and tired of hearing about the Miami Triple Threat, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh, just as much as you are and last night we all expected them to come out of the gate and dominate. That didn't happen. The veteran Boston team were all over Miami's defense and exposed their "just met two months ago so this a new team" weaknesses. Boston would go on to win the game 88-80. This was the catalyst for much hate as people across all social networks expressed their hatred for Miami and suddenly became clairvoyants to which they predicted that the Heat will go 0-82 this season. I think I was more upset with the opinions of these folks rather than the game but remember readers, ignorant comments are what give us a starting point to debate issues so in essence we need them to make the world go round. I wish the Heat much luck throughout the season and hope they find the chemistry their fans and basketball are looking for.

Now on to LA. We all remember how the Lakers won the NBA Championship this past summer and last night was their ring ceremony. A lot of hugs, cheers, and tears Kobe Bryant and his team celebrated. Then, it was off to playing basketball. This match against the Rockets had a playoff essence to it. The score was always close and the atmosphere screamed...CHAMPIONSHIP! Maybe that was because of the ring ceremony hours before...could have been but the game was enjoyable to watch. The Lakers won 112-110....pretty close huh? Congratulations to the Lakers on their new pieces of jewelry.

With games like these two, it pretty much seems that the NBA season is starting off on an exciting foot. Can't wait to continue to see what else the league has to offer.

Sexting, Boos, And A SNL Parody...Sucks To Be Brett Favre

If you're Brett Favre, you want the month of October to die faster than your popularity. It has been admitted by Brett Favre that he engaged in sending sexual text messages to Gameday Host Jenn Sterger. One would think that Brett would be relieved by his admission but in fact, things have spiraled downward. Last night, Favre received a massive amount of boos from fans which I believe broke his spirits and crushed his soul. Saturday night on SNL, Favre and his Wrangler Jeans ads were parodied and while I laughed, I thought about how all of this could have been avoided and some choice words for both Favre and Sterger.

Let's begin to answer the question before the choice words for these marital criminals are said. How could have this been avoided? I would think it's as simple as having your publicist and your agents on speed dial to attend to the matter before things get leaked. But, I can only imagine how complicated and time consuming concealing a thing like this would be especially when we have a participant hell bent on telling "her story". Therefore, to answer this question fully, this could have all been avoided had Brett remembered that he's married with children and focused on the task at hand...the team and winning.

Now for the choice words for Brett: I applaud you for finally speaking out and admitting your wrong doing but don't think that erases the fact that you sent sexual text messages to another woman that wasn't your wife. You're married with children and have a grandchild and the fact that you even collected a Gameday Host's phone number is where my anger for you comes from. She's a host, not your agent or your publicist therefore what in the hell were you thinking when you two exchanged digits? You should have known right then and there this wasn't going to end well. So, as a result when you lose your endorsements and the money dwindles I'll laugh and wish for it all to leave...preferably in a divorce settlement to your wife. That may not happen but I hope the embarrassment and shame eats at you.

Jenn: The opportunity for you to jump start your sports career and become highly respected and recognized is now down the drain because you chose to act like a groupie. In order to break the stereotype surrounding women in sports and athletes, you have to be able to not fall for the temptation and rise above it. I also question why come out with it now? What's in it for you? Do you feel better about yourself for doing this? I want to understand your reasoning and mindset because for now I'm calling you a sideline ho and a groupie. You and so many other women who engage in acts like this are the reason why it's hard for women like myself and others who are serious about sports to be taken seriously. I'm pretty sure you wanted to keep the flirting harmless but look at where it's gone. You'll never be hired by the NFL or any other sport again so I hope you use your college degree wisely.

If it's one thing I can conclude with, it'll be the line I used weeks ago when I first wrote about this scandal, be careful of the women who suddenly seem a little too friendly for your liking. Remember, a W-2 form and a 9-5 job are just mirrors for groupie tendencies.

All Good Things Must Come To An End...

I'm writing this post with a heavy heart and heavy mind because, dare I say it, the New York Yankees lost Game 6 to the Texas Rangers. That's right, Ron Washington and his Rangers are the 2010 ALCS Champions. Their hard work and dedication this season has served them well combined with the hot bat of Josh Hamilton. This will be a short post because I'm still in the grieving process as it's still surreal that my Yankees will be taking an early vacation. Also, there's no need to recap what has happened, I'm pretty sure we were all watching, cursing, biting our nails, taking shots, and possibly crying at the outcome of the game. Although I am sad, I know that there's always next year to continue our quest to #28. Our season may be over but our hearts will continue to beat.

Congratulation Texas, you played a hell of a game and had tunnel vision focus throughout the season and the postseason. Good luck to you as you face your new competitors in the World Series. Whether it be the Philadelphia Phillies or the San Francisco Giants, you're up for a challenge and I hope you can deliver.

I want to thank the New York Yankees for making this season for me one I will never forget. I've been to some heart pumping and "on the edge of your seat" games as well as watching some monumental games. You'll always have my love and support and while at the moment everything seems dreary and bleak, remember that when in doubt, know that Whitney is your #1 fan.

And The Yankees Let Out A Collective "Phew! Ok, We're Still In It"

I remember waking up today and thinking, "I have so much to do and where to begin?" When you get a day off, the extra free time should be spent on doing things that are productive. So, what did I do today? I stayed in my bed, curled up, and pushing down nerves because today was Game 5 Do or Die for the New York Yankees. How did we do? Read on and you'll see.

I am proud to announce that the Yankee bats hopped up out of bed, turned their swag on and led us to a 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. By doing this, they allowed CC Sabathia to be dominant and efficient in holding Texas to nearly nothing. Our backs were against the wall and honey we mauled our way out of obscurity. I remember tweeting last night that "The Rangers were guests in our home and they left with the silverware, china, and furniture" so going into today's game, I kept thinking: what else are you going to allow them to take? I'm glad the Yankees noticed the missing items and retrieved what was theirs. A special thanks to Derek Jeter, Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez, and hell the rest of the lineup for COLLECTIVELY shining. I saw no individual efforts today and I couldn't be any happier.

The rest of the series has to be taken one day at time and while we're all pumped up for Game 6, we can't forget that everything is an uphill climb. I'm confident that these guys will be wearing the necessary shoes to take that climb on.

Texas to NY: We're Chuckin' Up Those Deuces

So, after last night's M-E-L-T-D-O-W-N against Cliff Lee and the Rangers, we fans collectively formed a circle and said a little prayer for Allan James Burnett. With one eye to the sky to God and one closed we all placed our eggs of faith into one basket and hoped for the best. What was the outcome? Well....if you were near alcohol, everything was "niccccceeeee". For the rest of us, we could of used an alcohol hero. No need for a recap...time to D-I-G in.

Allan James must of had that heart-to-heart he so much needed because when he pitched tonight, he grabbed EVERYONE'S attention. At one point, he looked at the camera and said "Fooled you all earlier in the season...didn't I?". Allan had Texas at a stand still. Now, one would have thought with having your shaky pitcher back on the straight and narrow for a while would evoke some incentive to keep up the momentum and while Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter continue to answer the call, the rest of the hitters are under the notion that you don't have to work while on the job. On Twitter I would pull the "#seewhatIdidthere" but I'm being honest. Did the rest of you bother to show up? I'm pretty sure you all were mentally present in getting dressed and driving to the stadium and changing into your uniforms but as far as being present on the field, I questioned that. Although Burnett's mistake, grand to some, sheer bad luck to others, was the driving force for Texas' resurgence, he held the Yankees the best he could for 6 innings. So the questioning of mental awareness stands in my book.

As if the Yankees needed anymore bad news, Mark Teixeira pulled a hamstring and will be out for the rest of the season. My heart is slowly climbing out of my stomach with this news but as for the team, that should have been the spark to set things off. I know I'm going to receive criticism for bashing the hitters but I feel no one else is doing it. If ya'll think I've gone far enough, I haven't even started on the fans. It's about time we start.

Let me clear something up, just because you've paid $3,000 and better for your ticket that doesn't correlate with your fanhood...nor does it warrant your disrespectful behavior. Acting ignorant and belligerent to opposing players isn't cute. I am not impressed nor am I amused. Also, don't interfere with the game. If you see a ball approaching you, move out of the way. Step to the side the same way you would if you saw a poor person begging. Oh and the biggest criticism of them all, leaving before the game is done. Winning or not, you stay in your seats until the final out. The "trying to beat traffic and I have work in the AM" excuse does not fly with me. You knew what you were getting into when you purchased those tickets so spare me...literally spare me.

I want to end with a little words of wisdom for the NY Yankees: "Whether you think you can or you can't...you're right". Take this quote and internalize it. I wish you guys the best of luck in the next 3 games. I will not abandon you in your darkest hour. Loyalty is all I know.

Yankees Put The Hurtin' On Them Boys...Ya'll Saw The Score

After a week of sheer boredom on television, well my Thursday nights are filled with Grey's Anatomy and Jersey Shore, this day, Friday, finally came and we were all able to watch Game 1 of the ALCS. CC Sabathia looked to recover from a shaky start of Game 1 of the ALDS for the Yankees and C.J. Wilson looked to continue the joy ride for the Texas Rangers. Let's dig in:

In the first inning, the Rangers were out for blood and boy did they make CC bleed Yankee blue. With not being able to find the strike zone, to allowing walks, the big blow came off of the bat of Josh Hamilton, a favored MVP candidate. The Rangers were up 3-0. Two innings after that, both the Yankees and the Rangers made minimal contact and Sabathia still tried to find his footing. An inning later, the 5th, Sabathia's attempts ran its course as Texas gained two more runs and were up 5-0. It had become clear on Twitter and everywhere else that this game was over. The panic button was pushed and pessimism went to work. Another day, another dollar for hate.

But, something happened. Optimism cut the paycheck short for pessimism as the other favored MVP candidate Robinson Cano hit a home run. The Yankees trailed 5-1 and we all sat up. Little did we know, the firestorm was brewing for the next inning. At the top of the 8th, Brett Gardner propelled the rallying further as he slid into first base...safely. Gardner must have owned a Slip N' Slide as a kid. There was a sudden shift in momentum as the Yankees played ring around the bases and just brought in 5 RUNS! For the first time tonight, the Yankees lead 6-5.

Mariano would come on in the 9th and of course did what he's been doing best for 16 years...shut. it. down. Yankees won 6-5.

Don't ask me how I wrote this post considering my hands are shaking from this overwhelming comeback. For anyone who doubted this team tonight, don't cheer for them the rest of this series and in the future. You clouded my timeline with negativity and you all are bandwagoner fans. You're not welcomed here. Go home. As for everyone else, I see/tweet/blog you all later on today.

Sexting and Trying To Win A Game Is Hard Work...Isn't It Brett?

After alleged rumors of Brett Favre having a mobile affair with Jenn Sterger, a Jets "Gameday Host" which included sexts and naked photo sending, Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings came to the Meadowlands to play the New York Jets. While the fans were divided between talking about this affair and how Minnesota could try to salvage their embarrassing weekend, Favre just wanted to play and play they did. Let's dig in:

After a slow start to the game because of a lightning storm the Vikings were off to an even slower start as the Jets dominated and showed everyone that they too are more than recent scandals. Within the first quarter, the Jets were up by 3 because of a field goal from Nick Folk and Minnesota looked defenseless. With fumbles and lack of focus, the Vikings couldn't score and tried to redeem themselves in the second half. We're on to the 2nd half.

Nick Folk would resurface again with 2 more field goals which gave the Jets a 9-0 lead. At this point, we all though that this game would be a blowout because of the inability of the Vikings to show up and perform. Thinking what I was thinking? TIME FOR HALFTIME!

We're back from the half and tonight is all about Nick Folk as another field goal put the Jets up 12-0. Now, if you were sure that the Vikings were down and out, you don't watch sports because recently resigned Randy Moss scored a touchdown on a 37 yard pass from Farve. Minnesota was on the board 12-7. To end the 3rd, Folk did what he did best, a field goal, and the Jets were up 15-7.

We're in the final quarter and Minnesota came out of the gate swinging as Percy Harvin scored a TD on Farve's 34 yard pass. The Vikings were up 15-13. A TD from the Jets gave the Jets a lead of 22-13. Percy Harvin returned with an 11 yard TD to bring the Vikings up 20-22. Now things became interesting. Back and forth and heart pounding plays, the Jets finally closed out the game with a score of 29-20.

If you're a Minnesotan, this weekend was not in your favor. Dust yourselves off and literally try again. As for Favre, you're own individual post will be coming soon if I feel like delving into your chaos. For now though, you have a lot of explaining to do to your wife if this is all true and let this be a lesson to you, sideline reporters and Gameday Hosts shouldn't have your number because sometimes, they're no different than groupies. A 9-5 and W-2 form is just a mirror for groupie tendencies.

Let's Pop Champagne Like We're Used To...ALCS Style!

Last night, I was fortunate enough to witness the New York Yankees sweep the Minnesota Twins, the score was 6-1, live and in person. The stadium was electric and the fans were rowdy and I wouldn't have had it any other way. October Madness Has Got Me Going Insane...In A Good Way

Every six months or so, one sport leaves and another one enters. As we say hello to football, hockey, and basketball season, we say goodbye to baseball. From April until October, we buy apparel, attend games, buy peanuts and crackerjacks, and bite our nails down to stubble when our team makes it to the post season. For a lucky few whose team makes it to October, we don't say goodbye gracefully, WE TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN! Welcome to the 2010 MLB Playoffs!

All day on TBS, fans have been treated to a Triple Header as we first saw the Rays and Rangers battle, the Reds and Phillies collide, and finally the Yankees and Twins scrap. Cliff Lee pitched amazingly against the Rays and left David Price and the Rays gasping for air trying to catch up. Alas, the Rangers would win the game 5-1. Moving on to Game 2, Roy "Doc" Halladay continued to prove why he is on his way to pitching immortality as he pitched a no-hitter to leave the Reds completely dumbfounded. The Phillies would win 4-0. And finally, we come to the game that myself and Yankees fans have been itching and yearning to see.

The Yankees and CC Sabathia arrived in Minnesota to do some damage and while their damage wasn't crushing, they made a lot of noise. Sabathia pitched with everything he had but the Twins came out of the gate swinging early and took a 2-0 lead and then a 3-0 lead. Robinson Cano gave the Yankees a little air in the 6th when he hit a RBI single to give Minnesota a 3-1 lead. The bats were alive as the Yankees went from 3-1 to 3-2, 4-3 and then 6-4. The great closer Mariano Rivera would come on in the bottom of the 8th to keep the Yanks at 6-4. The Yankees would go on to win the game 6-4.

Today has been nothing short of eventful for Major League Baseball and if we're starting off the ALDS and NLDS in this fashion, I'm excited to see what else is in store.

He's A Stunt Queen...He Pulls Stunts For A Living...

Tonight was the season premiere of the Real Housewives of Atlanta and boy oh boy did they come out the gate SWINGING! Hands down, this was the first time that my heart raced rapidly during this hour as well as me tweeting excessively about the housewives. It's safe to say that ladies for a first episode you didn't disappoint and without further delay folks, I bring you the recap and reaction from the show.

The first 12 minutes of the show consisted of Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes trying to patch up their relationship for the umpteenth time since last season when NeNe choked Kim and the cops were called. To get the ball rolling on their relationship again, NeNe invited Kim over to see her new house and during their meeting, Kim and NeNe discussed Kim's new found bisexuality. Yes, Kim has been dating a woman and just wants her friends and fans to be as open and comfortable with her new lifestyle. After NeNe states that she is comfortable with Kim's new lifestyle, they then move on to talking about NeNe's financial independence and how that has affected her relationship with her husband Greg. Kim drops a bombshell on NeNe, one that I feel will take all season to solve, in which Kim tells NeNe that their mutual friend Dwight has been running around town telling people that Greg has borrowed $10,000 from him. From the moment that this was said, I just scratched my head because something about that statement just doesn't sound right. This mystery needs to be solved and fast.

On the other side of town, we meet a new housewife named Phaedra and she's something of a heavyweight in Atlanta being a lawyer to the stars. As we delved into her life briefly tonight, we also saw that she's a friend of NeNe, since childhood, as well ad Dwight. Now we can see where this is going. However, when Phaedra sat down to chat with Dwight at his house, the conversation took a left and we were on the subject of Sheree Whitfield's fashion show. Dwight noted that he spent $30,000 to help boost Sheree's show and from then on, I knew Dwight had double trouble coming his way. As we'll see shortly, I was right.

There was a brief moment where NeNe and Greg actually talked about this massive $10,000 rumor and Greg had this to offer, all summarized and no exact, "Dwight and I were in a business deal together and Dwight had $500 and another $200 on top of that". So, that statement is jumbled and incoherent and still leaves me confused, o_O is more correct because how do we get $10,000 from $500? Someone seriously has to explain that to me.

Now, I was still on the explanation kick and I thought that we would finally get our answer at the shoe boutique event because Dwight, NeNe, and Sheree, as well as Kim and Phaedra would be in attendance. I guess I had some hope for confrontation etiquette from NeNe and I think I overshot my hopes a tad bit too high. From the jump NeNe was hotheaded. Dwight asked for a hug, "Don't I get a hug?" and Ms. Leakes said "No not really boo". That was the spark that set off the fuse. Voices were raised, hands were flying, and it became straight chaos. Ms. Leakes seriously needs to learn how to be cordial and how to resolve conflicts a little more eloquently than that. You're a grown woman, that behavior was high school. I do hope to some improvement from you this season my dear.

Well, there you have it...the first episode of the season. Is your heart still racing like mine? It'll go away once you settle in for bed. This is sure to be a fiery season...I can see it now.

The Core Four...Loyalty Is All They Know

As I was scanning through the Daily News this morning, I came across this interesting piece entitled, Fab Four: How This Legendary Group Almost Never Got Together and I was compelled to write about this spectacular group of men and how we can all learn a little something about love and loyalty.

It's hard to believe that nearly 16 years ago, a young shortstop from Michigan, Derek Jeter, a pitcher from Texas, Andy Pettitte, a catcher from Puerto Rico, Jorge Posada, and a reliever from Panama, Mariano Rivera, made their big league debuts. Skinny, wide-eyed, and hungry, figuratively and literally, these men scraped and scrapped for their success....success that has contributed to 5 World Series titles and nearly hundreds of millions in salaries. With all that could come with such monumental success, I think what should be reveled is the fact that they're still together. Although Andy left for 3 years, he's still much apart of that statement than anything else.

Free agency, greed, and big bucks go hand in hand and with anything in life, stability isn't always guaranteed. To have longevity in an organization such as the New York Yankees, I wonder what has been keeping them together besides great negotiations and lucrative contracts? Call it mushiness or call it realness, I believe love and loyalty, on all fronts, is what's been the glue to holding these guys together. In order to survive double digits on a team with the same people, you have to develop a mutual love and understanding for who that person is on the field and off the field. Likewise, you have to keep the phrase "throwing me/him under the bus" away from your organization and life at all times.

So, how does witnessing love and loyalty from a group of baseball players help bridge connectivity in our lives? The same practice of mutual understanding in a clubhouse is no different than in any house. You and I can exhibit the same quality in any situation no matter how big or small the issue. Secondly, as a big stickler for loyalty, I am a proponent of accountability and taking responsibility for your actions. Therefore, throwing someone under the bus shouldn't be your first or last resort, it shouldn't find it's way into your life. Learning to be loyal and trustworthy goes a long way. Trust me, there's nothing more desirable than a person who's loyal. Loyalty is all I know.

As Wednesday approaches and the ALDS begins, I want to congratulate the Yankees, including the Core Four, on another successful season. This piece is for you. Also, congratulations to all the teams in who've made it to the postseason. This is sure to be something exciting.

Congratulations to the New York Yankees for clinching a playoff spot tonight. It's been a long time coming and with the ups and down of the past few games, we fans have been itching for some assurance that we'll reach October. Tonight was that night as the Yankees won 6-1.

A Husband, A Father, A Boss And Much More Than This...He Did It His Way

Tonight was the unveiling of George Michael Steinbrenner III's monument inside Monument Park and to say that his tribute was anything less than emotional would be an understatement. As Hank, Hal, Jennifer, and Jessica, along with his widow Joan, and their children watched Yankee Stadium commemorate their father, husband, and grandfather, with tear-filled eyes, we the fans cried as well and then geared up for a great match with the Tampa Bay Rays. Let's begin.

As the ceremony took place and everyone made their way to Monument Park, there was a resounding calm that came over the stadium as Joe Torre and Don Mattingly were walking along the field...a resounding calm coupled with a massive standing ovation. As I stood up, drenched with tears, and clapped, I couldn't help but feel as if George himself was responsible for bringing the calm...as if to tell us that he appreciates everything and he couldn't be in better spirits. Finally, we came to the heart of the night and Joan Elizabeth Steinbrenner unveiled the monument. It was beautiful. It was breathtaking. It was magical. To end the commemoration, Frank Sinatra's "My Way" played and boy oh boy what a better way to sum up the night. The game could begin.

Since a play by play would ruin the evening and the post, I'll highlight key players in the victory over the Rays. Derek Jeter had a monster night with 2 hits bringing his total to 2,910...90 away from 3,000 and Curtis Granderson hit 2 homeruns and collected 5 RBIs. Manning Bowl II = Peyton Spanking That Behind...

The long awaited Manning vs. Manning game took place tonight in Indianapolis. As fans of both Peyton Manning and Eli Manning geared up for some sibling rivalry, both brothers just saw this as another day at work. As parents Archie and Olivia Manning watched from the sky box we all knew this would be some match. Boy was is some match. Shall we begin?

The Indianapolis Colts charged on the field as Manning and Brown found an opening and Brown scored an easy touchdown to give the Colts a 7-0 lead. The Giants tried to respond with a TD of their own but Eli threw an incomplete pass to Nicks. They did find some footing afterward but that was short lived.

The Colts answered NY's call with Peyton throwing a pass to Clark for a touchdown. The Colts now led 14-0. As if things couldn't get any worse for New York, Eli fumbled the ball and Peyton threw another beautiful TD pass to Austin Collie for a score of 24-0. Halftime couldn't come any sooner.

Back from the half and the Giants were FINALLY on the board with 7...at least it wouldn't be a blowout. However, with a turnover from NY and Eli getting knocked hard by Freeney, the ball fell out of his hands and was recovered by Moala for another Colts touchdown. The score was now 31-14.

In the final quarter, The Giants and their fans knew it was over, although they scored another touchdown, and as Indianapolis scored another touchdown and the final score was 38-7. Manning Bowl II ended with Peyton toppling over his younger brother for the victory.

Rather than kicking the Giants while they're down...I'll just say better luck next week boys....you'll need it to recover from that D-E-B-A-C-L-E.

J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!

If you're a Jets fan, Pats fan, or even a Tom Brady fan, today was the day to put up or shut up. Since preseason football commenced, there have been back and forth banter about how one team is better than the other. Remember when Tom Brady was asked if he watched the show Hard Knocks and he replied "I don't watch that show. I hate the Jets"? Well, today's game was all about putting the money where the mouth is for The New York Jets and The New England Patriots. Let's begin.

In the first quarter, both teams were trying to find some footing and get the ball rolling. Things began to heat up towards the end of the 1st quarter as the Patriots regained focus and knew what they were after.

In the beginning of the 2nd quarter, the Patriots scored early with a touchdown, the Jets were on the move. Towards the middle of the 2nd quarter, the Jets came out of the gate swinging as Braylon Edwards caught a TD pass from Sanchez. Now we move to halftime.

Coming back from the half, the Patriots continued to glide past the Jets with Randy Moss' touchdown giving the Pats some momentum. The score was now 14-10. During this time, we learned that Darrelle Revis was taken out of the game with a hamstring injury. The Jets, however, didn't let this stop them and they climbed back to being down one point 14-13.

If it seemed as if the Jets were out for NE blood, you're right because the Jets continued with their amazing plays to take a 21-14 lead going into the 4th quarter due to a TD by Jerricho Cotchery. Dustin Keller would score a touchdown in this quarter to give the Jets a whopping lead of 28-14. The Jets would go on to win the game by a score of 28-14 breaking them even in standings at 1-1.

Today's game also showed the improvement of Mark Sanchez who took a beating last Monday against the Ravens leaving many to doubt his abilities so early in the season. Hopefully today's success can silence the critics.

The New York Yankees won tonight and while it was a collaborative effort from players such as Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, Brett Gardner, and Jorge Posada, the night belongs to Carsten Charles Sabathia and his 20th win of the season.

Sabathia's victory was propelled by the Yankees and their monstrous win over the Orioles, 11-3. Now, I know you're all thinking "is she going to delve further into the run support behind Sabathia?" And the answer is....NO! Sorry to be so blunt and brass but once again the night belongs to Sabathia. However, we can talk about how this also skyrockets him into being the sure-fire pick for the Cy Young award. Uh oh...here comes the debate...can't you hear it? "What about King Felix? How dare you ignore David Price?" Well those answers will be answered in depth when a post is dedicated to the Cy Young award. CC was only mentioned to add extra flavor to his achievement tonight.

Is It Monday Yet? Hells Yea! Monday Night Football Is Back!

How to begin this post? Well, rather than go into words...I'll go with a video

Ahh, that commercial gets me everytime. Tonight was the premiere of Monday Night Football and one of 2 games was the NY Jets vs the Baltimore Ravens. Are you excited to dig in? Let's go!

After a mini rain delay, the Jets were off and running and with a fumble from the Ravens early and a failed attempt at a touchdown, from the Jets, they redeemed themselves with a field goal the Jets were leading 3-0.In the 2nd quarter, the Jets would find more footing and take a nice 6-0 lead off of another field goal. However, the Ravens caught on to their horrible playing and scored a touchdown. Baltimore would now lead 7-6. Then.....it was halftime.

Coming back from the half, the Jets fell apart and Cundiff kicked a nice 25 yd. line field goal to give the Ravens a 10-6 lead. Finally, int he 4th quarter, the Jets would try any and everything they could to win the game. After another field goal, the Jets would be behind one point. We all just knew a miracle would happen. But, it's only the first Monday of the season so no miracles and the Jets would lose 10-9.

I don't know about you guys but even with the loss, I'm glad that football is back and so is the cold weather.

The King Of Clay And All Four Grand Slams

After having the Men's Final was canceled yesterday because of rain, Rafael Nadal had to wait for his chance at history. Patiently yet anxiouly, Nadal took to the court today to face Novak Djokovic and just when things were settling in nicely with Nadal taking the first set 6-4 and being tied in the second set 4-4, the heaves opened up again and the rain fell down, we would have to sit through another rain delay...we fans were not amused.

Nearly 2 hours later, we resumed play. Novak would muster up some fight and take the second set 7-5. Now in the 3rd set, Nadal would bring the pain and take the set 6-2. If it looked as if Rafa was going for it all...then you're right because nothing was standing in this guy's way.

In the fourth and final set of the match, Rafa steam rolled past Novak who seemed to fade away from the final. Whether it was him giving up or the fact that he had no more gas in him, Novak didn't bring much and Nadal won the set and the championship with 6-2. Fun fact: Rafael Nadal is the 7th man to win all four grand slams.

Another classy ceremony moment came from Nadal when Rafa was asked about his opponent. Simply put, Rafa said "He's such a great player. Watch out for this guy because he's going to win this very soon. Great attitude after a defeat. Great example for the kids". You both are great examples for the kids.

Well, there you all have it, the grand slam season is over. I'll be back in January to kick off the new year with the Australia Open.

NFL.... Welcome Back!

While America has been glued to baseball for the past 5 months, football fans have been sulking and waiting for any and every excuse to ignore their nagging girlfriends, fiancees, and wives. Well, wait no longer my dear fans because football season is back and off to a great start. I'm excited to dig into the juicy happenings around the league.

I'll start with Fox NFL Sunday. My boys are back and boy did it feel as if they've never left. With predictions for the season to Terry Bradshaw's "Fired Up" rant about how Big Ben, Ben Roethlisberger, should have been dumped by the Steelers for his "alleged" rape charges vs a 4 game suspension, it seems as if my Sundays are filled up again with the 5 guys who make me smile. Now, on to some action.

Over on CBS, the New England Patriots faced the Cincinnati Bengals and from the jump, New England were on the attack. Tom Brady wanted to show everyone why he's the highest paid football player in the league and with that mission, he succeeded. In the first quarter, NE would take a lead of 10-0. Cincinnati had to shake off the jitters. In the second quarter, NE pounced on the Bengals and took a whopping 24-0 lead. I had to question the marketing and hype surrounding Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens or as I've heard "Ochorell". With some steam after the half, the Bengals found some footing and climbed back. However, NE would go on to win 38-24.

On Fox, the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers christened the new stadium with their match. Now, remember on 12-26-2009 when the Giants were shutout in their own stadium...for the last game of the season...and the last game ever at Giants Stadium? Well NY made sure they brought the heat this time around. With shaky offense finding it's way in the game, the Giants had to really fight to gain some ground. With Kevin Boss getting injured, it looked as if this game was headed for disaster. But, fear not dear fans as Hakeem Nicks stepped up and carried the load. 3 touchdowns for Nicks would do the trick and help the Giants claim victory over the Panthers. North Carolina don't come on and raise up. Don't take your shirt off and twist it round your head, swinging it like a helicopter. Just go home with your 31-18 defeat.

While there are plenty of other games going on, I wanted to focus on these two to get the season underway. Happy Sunday everybody!

Kim Clijsters...Did She Ever Leave Tennis?

Looking to defend her title as the US Open Women's Champion, #2 seed Kim Clijsters took to the court against the 7th seed Vera Zvonereva. Coming off an amazing win against Caroline Wozniacki, it seemed as if Zvonereva had found her form and had controlled her emotions. Let's see if this would prove successful against Clijsters. Let's begin.

In the first set, Clijsters dominated with her powerful forehand and command. Zvonereva tried to keep up but to no avail because Kim would take the first set 6-2. On to the second set.

In the second, Kim just continued to steam roll through Vera. Vera only garnered 1 win as Clijsters showed no mercy and made Zvonereva eat dust. Kim would go on to win the championship in two sets with 6-2, 6-1.

During the ceremony, it was evident that Zvonereva was fighting back tears as she congratulated Kim and kind of beat herself up, verbally. Kim used her moment at the mic to say "Vera played really well and don't worry you'll get there because you are a very good player so just keep going". Classy Kim...very classy.

Now that the Women's section of tennis is done, we move on to the Men's Final tomorrow with Novak Dkokovic and Rafael Nadal. Happy watching and congratulations Kim.

And Just Like That....Everything Is Swishalicious...

In what was the final game of a series between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles which left Yankee fans scratching their heads and questioning, "Are we really losing to the Orioles?" the Yankees brought all of their might to the ballpark.

Ivan "SuperNova" Nova was on the mound today and while his performance wasn't great, Nova came with some fight. However, the Orioles, who just continue to surprise everyone, well...not surprising since Buck Showalter is their manager, managed to swing well enough to garner 2 runs on the board. Next up, the Yankees decided to give it a go at getting some runs in and were successful with 1 run. The game would be at a constant 2-1 until the bottom of the ninth when Nick Swisher appeared at the plate.

Prior to Nick's plate appearance, Robinson Cano, who has been going through a rough slump, almost hit a well needed confidence booster, a homerun, but was denied. Haven't we seen this upcoming occurrence before? When the hot hitting guy or the captain doesn't save the day a hero emerges...come on guys, the answer should be YES! We've seen this before and the hero's name is Nick Swisher.

Now, back to the story. With Nunez pinch running for Rodriguez, Nick Swisher comes to the plate and does what he normally does and ends everything with a bang. Today, that bang was a 2 run walk-off homer which helped the Yankees avoid a sweep from the Orioles and helped the Yankees win 3-2. Fun fact: A year ago, September 8, 2009...Swisher hit a a walk-off homerun against the Ray's Dan Wheeler.

So, how do we conclude what has been an amazing day? Well, I'll conclude by saying....damn good Nicholas Thompson Swisher.

I'm Sorry. No I'm Sorry. No I'm Done With It All. Then...Awkward Hug!

Tonight was Part 2 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey Reunion and I must say that through the yelling, the Kim G. appearance, and the sudden epiphany at the end, I'm glad that the season is over and they can put this nonsense behind them. For all of you that missed the reunion, here's a recap of all that you missed.

The gang left off from last week's discussion about Danielle's behavior at The Brownstone and when Danielle was confronted about the "faggot" comments made by her buddy Danny, she was adamant that she scolded Danny for his behavior afterward but then contradicted herself by saying that she doesn't take full responsibility for the actions of Danny. Then why scold him then if you don't take full responsibility for his actions? Get it together.

As the night progressed, there was just so much inconsistency with the answers from given that I couldn't wait for a commercial break. Once the reunion resumed, we were treated to a hair lesson in weaving from Danielle as she described just how Ashley pulled out her hair. By bringing in a beauty school practice dummy, Danielle proceeded to explain just how weaves/extensions are put in and to show everyone the force by which Ashley pulled out her extensions. This is why she pressed charges against Ashley. 2nd, the request made by Caroline was granted....Kim G appeared to answer questions about her shadiness on the show. That went nowhere because Kim G is more delusional than she puts on. Kim G was there to just to fill space.

Moving on from that, the reunion took a serious yet cynical turn as Danielle apologized to Jacqueline for her disgusting behavior all season. Jaqueline, in her amazement, could only muster up a choppy "I'm sorry. I'm done with all. This shouldn't have gone this far". Danielle cried and then got up to hug Jacqueline and Teresa. She only shook Caroline's hand. Caroline wasn't buying it however, and after words were exchanged, Andy Cohen decided to end the show on that peaceful note.

As noted on the Bravo Tv website, "According to our very own Andy Cohen, "The reunion was Danielle's last appearance on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. We thought the hugs were a great way to end two seasons of bitterness between the women."".

Curious, I clicked on the link and came to this page on the Stumbled Upon and read the post. I was so taken aback by the truth in the post that I've decided to recopy the post. Top 10 Anticipated Things In September

Today is September 1st and as we wave goodbye to what was either a boring or monumental summer, we anxiously await the fall and what it has to offer. I know I'm excited so let's begin with the Top 10 Anticipated Things In September:

10. Back To School- If you're like me and have had it with the children who occupy the streets all day then you're in luck! With the return of school means diligent students who are so exhausted from studying that the energy to cause havoc isn't there. Have a great school year guys and keep pulling in those A's.

9. NBC Thursday Night Lineup- With shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation consistently making audiences laugh, the wait to have these shows back on the air is almost over. Also, with new shows such as Outsourced I'm sure the laughs will be louder.

8. Fall Weather- Tired of the heat waves? Tired of the humidity drying out your hair and leaving it brittle? If you answered "yes" then you're ready for a little dip in the weather...roughly 70 degree weather. It's bearable and it allows you to crack out those cute fall outfits.

7. NYC Fashion Week- For one week every fall and spring top designers showcase their exquisite outfits and being a shopping junkie, I break the bank and look fabulous. If you're lucky enough to ever attend a show, revel in the moment and soak up the glamour.

6. Wall Street-Money Never Sleeps- 23 years after the infamous film, Wall Street, Oliver Stone is back with one of my, dare I say, Economic icons Gordon Gekko. Shia LeBeouf stars as Jacob Moore, an up and coming broker engaged to Gekko's estranged daughter. Gekko and Moore try to stop the 2008 financial crisis but face opposition. So is greed, for a lack of a better word, good?

5. Grey's Anatomy- The season finale left me with heart complications and if this season is anything like last then count me in for season 7. The gang is back and all I have to ask is "Is Richard the chief again since Derek needs to heal from his gunshot wound?"

4. College sports- I'm a Duke Blue Devil kind of girl and I'm still celebrating after Duke's victory to be called the 2010 NCAA Champions. I'm looking for a repeat this year as well as looking forward to college football, baseball, etc.

3. Fox Animation Domination Sundays- I don't know about you but I love animation and Fox definitely knows how to make me laugh. From The Simpsons to The Cleveland Show to Family Guy to American Dad, I am in stitches and wouldn't have it any other way.

2. NFL Season/Fox NFL Sunday- With the Jets/Giants welcoming a new stadium, Eli Manning getting knocked out during pre-season football, and holdouts, I'm excited to see the 2010-2011 season. Also, my boys, Michael Strahan, Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw, Curt Menefee, and Jimmy Johnson are back for their amazing color commentary every Sunday.

1. The MLB Pennant Race- 30 teams have battled through injuries and personal highs and lows to make it to September for contention into the playoffs. Being the die hard Yankee fan that I am,the pennant race for the AL East has got me all shook up. The Yankees and the Rays are tied and it seems as if no one wants to fall out of the top spot. All over the league, teams are breaking records to secure their place at the top. Good luck guys. I wish you all the best.

Did You Even Visit Your Nephew? Yes I Did....Don't Break Up My Family!

Tonight was the long awaited first half of a 2 part reunion of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. If this post seems choppy or unclear, it's because the reunion left me numb, speechless, and wide-eyed. Let's dig in. As we all know, this season has been a whirlwind and as the 4 women sat down to talk about what has happened, the first 4 minutes of the sit down dictated how the rest of the night would go. Andy Cohen had bought up Jersey Shore to see how the women felt about another show representing Jersey but this time in a negative light. Teresa said she didn't approve of Sammi "The Sweetheart" sleeping with Ronnie a week after they met. Teresa then went on to compare this act to what Danielle had did with her ex-Steve at Teresa's shore house a year ago. The gloves were off and we all knew that there would be trouble for the rest of the night.

After things settled from the comment, Andy went on to talk about Teresa and Jacqueline becoming mothers again. Andy asked a question from a viewer about why Danielle didn't call Jacqueline after her son was born and Danielle noted that she wasn't allowed to say anything but offered her congratulations then and there on the reunion. Teresa interjected and commented on how disgusting of a friend Danielle was to Jacqueline and boy oh boy did Danielle ever say the mother of all comments to Teresa "Did you even visit your own nephew?" Teresa answered "Yes I did". Just when I thought it was over...no...Teresa got up off the couch and went balls to the wall insane. She wagged her finger in Danielle's face and screamed "Don't break up my family! You bitch!" Things went haywire shortly after with Andy being pushed, the cameras running backstage, hairdressers consoling the women, pure insanity. A commercial break was needed.

After the commercial break, the reunion proceeded with talking about what the Jersey kids had accomplished this season, the off handed comments made about each other's children and of course Teresa's finances. While she does admit that she is in debt, she still remains in denial that she has serious spending problems and that foreclosure of her home is a possibility. Moving from the awkwardness of money talk, the show focused on Caroline and her amazing mothering this season and how she opened up her life and her children's lives a little more this season. I was pleased and touched by her being so brave once again. Caroline you rock.

Coming towards the end, the subject moved from Danielle's involvement in porn to her rude behavior at The Brownstone. Caroline and Danielle exchanged words and after Caroline said "We're in the OK Corral so buckle up", we fans were left with a cliffhanger...

Ivan Nova Is As Hot As The Sun. Hello Super Nova

When a stellar explosion decides to become extremely luminous, it causes a burst of radiation that can outshine an entire galaxy. During this occurrence, energy is released as bright as the sun. This is called Supernova. And just when we thought that there wasn't anyone or anything that could compete...along comes Ivan Nova.

Nova is the 23 year old phenom from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre who secured his first major league career win today against the Chicago White Sox. Nova went 5 2/3 innings in what was an amazing outing for the rookie.

Nova is someone who goes on the mound and plays with passion and intensity, and intensity we all saw against the Blue Jays a few games back when he and Jose Bautista exchanged words. It's the "ice" in Nova's veins that will help him continue to be an unstoppable force as the season rolls on.

In the words of Nova's mother and brother "Don't feel pressure, it's just baseball" and Nova looks as if there is no pressure and...with 32 games left in the season Nova has to remind himself that it is just baseball but, when you play for the New York Yankees, it's baseball and a World Series championship.

You're The One With Red Hair Caroline...You're The Clown...

Tonight was the season finale for Season 2 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey and from the clip shown above, this was the ultimate showdown between Caroline Manzo and Danielle Staub and when I say that Caroline Manzo is loyal to her family, I mean she truly lives by the motto "blood is thicker than water". Let's dig in.

Caroline agreed to meet with Danielle to talk about dropping charges made against Ashley. Caroline's family pleaded with her to avoid Danielle as well as Danielle's children pleading with their mother to avoid Caroline. Both women decided to meet and after a few agreements on incidents, Danielle put up her wall and proceeded to make Caroline look like the bad guy. It didn't work because Caroline is a woman of integrity and doesn't back down from a fight, even if she's cornered. Danielle on the other hand unravels when cornered....she lies.

After Caroline called Danielle garbage twice and because she knew she was losing to a woman who was ready for anything, Danielle mustered up something after Caroline called her a clown. She replied: "Caroline, you're the one with the red hair...you're the clown". Caroline came back with venom and Danielle was unprepared and walked out. Typical of someone losing a fight, they walk away. Nothing was resolved.

We'll see more of the ladies next week for Part 1 of the reunion show. I know I can't wait...

Where were you when Joe Torre decided he wasn't returning to the Yankees? I remember sitting on my couch watching ABC 7 and Scott Clark making his announcement. This was in 2007. Where were you yesterday, August 22, 2010, when Lou Piniella announced that this was his last day/time ever managing the Cubs? I was glued to my television like everyone else.

Lou Piniella's long, illustrious career in baseball which spans 48 years has come to an end. From the sharp-tongued, talented outfielder to the highly successful manager who threw tantrums and bases at umpires, Piniella has left and indelible mark on baseball that will never be forgotten.

Like so many of you, the early announcement came as a shock because we were all waiting for the end of the season to say our farewells...not in August. However, for a man who has put his family and team in a tie for first in his heart, his retirement yesterday only seemed fitting because he wants to spend more time with his ailing mother. "My mom needs me home and that's where I'm going", Piniella said before the start of the Cubs/Braves game yesterday.

It's an emotional time for Cubs fans as their beloved Lou moves on and for the rest of baseball as we say goodbye to the man who's lit up our highlight reels with his unique personality. Wait...let me scratch that...it's not goodbye Lou...more like see you soon.

Robinson Cano...MVP?

As August is slowly coming to a close and we await September, fall weather, and the playoffs, MVP talks are on the rise. The most talked about candidates this season are Josh Hamilton, Miguel Cabrera, and Robinson Cano.

We've all heard this question multiple times and have even asked our friends this question, "If the season were to end today, who would win the AL MVP Award?" and the answers and explanations have all been different..."Josh Hamilton because he leads the AL in average and nearly everything, Miguel Cabrera because his numbers are outstanding and he's on pace to win the Triple Crown Award, and finally Robinson Cano because he's really stepped it up this season and his numbers are amazing."

From that array of answers, how can we narrow down just who the MVP should be? Well, when looking at a player and seeing just who has the total package, it would have to be Robbie.

Since his appointment as the cleanup hitter, No. 5 spot, after Matsui left the Yankees, Cano has stepped up to the challenge and produced. As of late, with Alex Rodriguez out due to a calf injury, Cano has settled into the No. 4 spot quite comfortably....so comfortably that in the No. 4 spot, Cano has had 4 homeruns and 13 RBIs. Not bad for Cano.

Today, the hits kept on rolling as Cano hit a monster grand slam to give the Yankees a 5-0 lead after Mark Teixeira was intentionally walked. Once the rain settled, Cano would go on to bring 2 runners home capping off a stellar day with a grand slam and 6 RBIs...a career best. The Yankees would go on to win 10-0 against the Mariners.

We'll continue to watch as the season moves on and we'll all be glued to our televisions to hear the debates over the MVP candidates. I wish nothing but the best of luck to all of these men because each player brings a unique essence to the game that is so effective we're constantly talking about them.

Welcome To The Bronx Eduardo Nunez!

After yesterday's DEBACLE against King Felix, Felix Hernandez, the Yankees started fresh against Vargas and the Mariners....and boy did the bats come alive today.

With hits from the usual guys, Jeter, Cano, Teixeira, and Posada, just to name a few, the game rolled along until both New York and Seattle were deadlocked in a 4-4 tie. The game seemed to move slowly after this.

What changed the mood of the game was when newcomer Eduardo Nunez came to the batter's box and garnered his first major league hit. Nunez had been robbed of hit earlier in the game and on Thursday as well so today was the ultimate icing on the cake. With that single, Nunez also gained his first RBI and the Yankees would take a 5-4 lead.

One could say that Nunez opened the flood gates for Yankee hitting because the bats remained hot and the Yankees would go on to dominate the game.

Mariano would come out and work his magic as usual and the Yankees would go on to win 9-5.

It is only fitting that I extend warm congratulations to Nunez and close by saying: Eduardo...WELCOME TO THE BRONX!

The Rocket Has Fizzled Down To a Firecracker

Remember in 2008 when Roger Clemens appeared before a House committee and was adamant that he had never taken HGH or steroids? Well, it seems as if a federal grand jury is adamant that they've had it with Clemens and his lying and have indicted him for making false claims to Congress.

What started this firestorm was the fact that Clemens was mentioned in the Mitchell Report and had went to Congress to clear himself of any wrongdoing. From 2008 until today, Clemens still sticks to his story about how he never took steroids. Likewise, since 2008 Clemens and trainer Brian McNamee have been side by side in trying to prove the Mitchell Report wrong. Sadly, it would be McNamee who confessed that Clemens had taken steroids.

One would think that with McNamee's testimony, the possibility of serving a maximum of 30 years in prison, and having to pay a fine of $1.5 million, under U.S. sentencing guidelines Clemens would serve 15-21 months in jail, that Clemens would change his tune.

So, how does this affect Clemens' chances of going to the Hall of Fame? His career stats of 354 victories made him a definite for the Hall of Fame. Now, the question is up in the air. As noted by former teammate Lance Berkman, "In my opinion, he's a Hall of Famer. Period," who played with Clemens in Houston. "Whatever you want to say about the guy, he belongs in the Hall of Fame. In my opinion, legacy-wise, I guess that's up to -- I mean, 200 years from now, who cares? "But in the short term, I guess, he may have some things to address," Berkman said. "He's a big boy. He'll face up to whatever it is. But it doesn't change my opinion of him at all."

I feel bad for all involved in this situation from Clemens down to his family, the game, and the fans. I hope others take heed to what has happened today and that they begin to live by the old adage, "what you do in the dark always comes to light".

What Really Killed Lou Gehrig?

Nearly 70 years after the famed Yankee's death from ALS, which was later named Lou Gehrig's disease, there are recent reports that are re-examining the way in which Lou Gehrig really died.

Brain Trauma Can Mimic Lou Gehrig's Disease

Lou Gehrig might not have had Lou Gehrig's disease. A new study suggests that repeated concussions from playing sports can cause a motor-neuron disorder with symptoms that mimic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the ailment more often known by the name of the baseball great who died nearly 70 years ago. Like many professional athletes then and now, Gehrig often played through injuries, which included concussions. When researchers examined the brains and spinal cords of 12 deceased athletes thought to have died of ALS—all had a history of multiple concussions—they found that the athletes may actually have had chronic traumatic encephalomyopathy, a degenerative brain condition linked to head trauma. It's likely that some people—perhaps even Gehrig—suffered from the condition but were diagnosed with ALS. Two telltale proteins distinguish CTE from ALS, the researchers say. Symptoms of both conditions include weakness or numbness in the limbs, uncontrollable muscle twitching, and gradual loss of movement. The findings, published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology, strengthen evidence about the long-term damage of traumatic head injuries, The Wall Street Journal reports.

This comes as a major shock to me and beloved Yankee fans who idolize and continue to remember Gherig. While people are researching this breaking news, take time out to research ALS further and know the signs so that we can combat this killer.

Yankees Kick Off Hope Week 2010

This week, beginning today, The New York Yankees are participating in Hope Week which the Yankees recognize 5 inspirational stories and grant hope to these people in the form of courage, praise, love, and the occassional pool party, games of catch, and so much more for these deserving individuals. The players, coaches, and front office all do their part in ensuring that everyone walks away feeling slightly better about themselves and their lives.

At the end of each surprise for these 5 people, they are awarded a trip to Yankee Stadium so that the players personally connect with these people and to cap off their great personal accomplishments.

Hope Week is sure to be emotionally and spiritually rewarding and such a great thing for these players with such busy schedules to set time aside to do.

K-Rod is Down For The Count

As if the Mets need to add more insult to injury, Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez had come through big time. Following his disastrous confrontation with his father-in-law which resulted in punches being thrown, spending a night in custody, and losing 2 days pay due, it has been reported that K-Rod has torn a ligament in his pitching hand.

While the Mets are in Houston ready to take on the Astros, Rodriguez is spending this Monday possibly sulking at home because his hand will need surgery to repair and therefore, Rodriguez is out for the rest of the season. The Mets are already 10 games behind division-leading Atlanta and with K-Rod's absence for the rest of the season, the Mets will really have to scramble now to find some footing before October and the playoffs soon approach.

The Mets Don't Need Any Sympathy

As the Mets continue to struggle to find some footing during the second half of the season, there has been increased talk about the incompetence of the manager Jerry Manuel. With these talks, the proposed solution to this problem is to fire Jerry Manuel. Is this taking things a bit too far?

Yesterday, Mike Francesa had Jerry Manuel phone in to talk about the Mets' struggles which included the ambiguous playing status of Carlos Beltran and questionable pitching. I give Manuel nothing but respect for conducting that phone interview with the most professionalism possible being in the sticky situation he's in but I think he needs to stop beating around the bush and truly find a solution for his team who was 11 games over .500 and are now scrambling to get out of 3rd place and being 8.5 games behind Atlanta.

However, there was some good news last night as Pelfrey pitched beautifully to secure a win for the Mets, 1-0 against Colorado.

There It Goes...See Ya! Number 600 For Alex Rodriguez!

Here's a little question I will pose to get you all started: What do Alex Rodriguez and my birthday, August 4, have in common? I'll give you a moment....give up? The answer is milestone homeruns. On Aug 4, 2007, Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th homerun off of Kyle Davies and exactly 3 years later, Aug 4, 2010, Alex hit his 600th homerum off of Shaun Marcum in the bottom of the first to give the Yankees an early jump and to give the fans just what we've been waiting for.

I'm a firm believer in spirits, mystique, and aura and the fashion in which Alex hit his homerun was nothing short of breathtaking. Alex hit a straight shot to monument park as if the old Yankee greats were guiding the ball to its intended path. Positivity flowed throughout the stadium from new faces to familiar faces as well. Alex's ex-wife Cynthia was on hand to show good faith and pass along well wishes.

While I'm slightly jaded because this is the 2nd milestone I've missed on my birthday, I'll end by extending a warm congratulations to Alex and I hope to be there in another 3 years for 700.

A Special Birthday Greeting From The Birthday Girl

Well, I've waited for this day and now it's here. Today is my birthday! 22 years ago, August 4, 1988, I burst through the birth canal and have been unstoppable ever since. While I would like to relish in this day, I want to send a special birthday greeting to my fellow Leos who were born on August 4th as well. This includes celebrities and non-celebrities.

But, touching on the celebrity aspect, when I was 9, I remember researching people who shared the same birthday as mine. I was surprised and quite enamored with the people on this list. Top 10 Couples Who Should Reunite...

While I continue to wait for Alex to hit his 600th homerun I've decided to write a "Top 10" list of the couples who I feel should give their relationships a second chance. Remember, this is just an opinion so here goes:

10. Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee- A couple who have been through it all, a sex tape and 2 children, these two brought excitement to their union and this is what helped them break up, reunite, and break up again. I think they should give it another go around and try again. Good luck Pam and Tommy.

9. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe- From their days in Cruel Intentions to marriage and 2 children later, Reese and Ryan called it quits shortly after she won her Best Actress Oscar for Walk The Line. Reese has moved on and continued to make movies while Ryan has been at a stand still. These two need to get back together to rekindle their young love and to keep Ryan afloat.

8. Justin and Britney- Remember when they showed up at the VMAs in 2000 and wore matching denim? Those were the days when they were in love and Britney had a grip on reality. They should reunite because Britney could definitely use a stable influence in her life and I'm not convinced that they've gotten over each other. Especially when Justin's mother publicly professed her love for Britney and not for his other girlfriends.

7. J.Lo and Diddy- This hip hop pair were all the rage in the late 90s early 2000s. J.Lo's impeccable talent and Diddy's knack for business was a plus for this talent and although she's moved on with the incredibly talented Marc Anthony, and I approve, in my mind they'll always be an item.

6. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore- 11 years of marriage,3 children, and 2 highly successful movie careers, it's a shame that these two got divorced. What gives them extra bonus points is that they've remained on amicable terms for the children and they're so loving towards each other. Demi and Bruce remarry please!

5. Brad and Jennifer- This blond pair were so chill and adorable. Brad's alleged infidelity with Angelina Jolie was the reason for their split and since then things have been pretty unstable for them. Although Brad and Angelina have 6 beautiful children and Jenn still has her career, things could be better for the two. Guys, I wish you the best of luck.

4. Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter- Now, this awesome twosome have acquired longevity in careers that many don't survive for more than 5 years, baseball and music. When they first dated in 1997, Mariah was 9 years into her illustrious career and Derek was 1 year into being NY's hottest baseball players. A deadly combo this was and increased media influence was the reason for their split. Derek and Mariah, you two are grown and need to give this another try.

3. A-Rod and Kate Hudson- The NY Yankee's talented mental case dated movie royalty for nearly a year and her relaxed, down to earth persona gave Alex the confidence needed to secure his 1st World Series win and NY loved him. But, being the media whore he is, Alex ditched Kate and has since moved on to Cameron Diaz. While I would love for Alex and ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis to give it another try for their 2 girls, Kate and Alex are just as cute.

2. Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush- The Saint and The Sinner caught all media attention 2 years ago and things only heightened when Reggie won his 1st Super Bowl title. After splitting, reuniting, and splitting again, Kim has since moved on and so has Reggie. I think they were uber hot together.

LeBron James and The Cleveland Cavaliers- LeBron is a born and raised Clevelanite and the Cavaliers was the first team to give him a shot. 7 years and nearly billions later, LeBron left Cleveland in a special entitled The Decision and boy has Cleveland retaliated. From nasty letters to fans burning his jersey, LeBron has felt the wrath of biting the hand that feeds him. I wish both parties nothing but the absolute best.

Countdown to 600...Is It Here Yet?

Until Alex Rodriguez hits his 600th homerun, I've decided to put my life on hold. That's right...no extra curricular activities, no coming home after 7, no life until Alex hits. However, because he's not hitting, the question is"When will Alex hit 600?" In essence, It's not a matter of where he'll hit but a matter of when. In his recent at-bats after hitting 599, Alex hasn't produced anything in the HR department. While he's had a few hits here and there I'm beginning to become alarmed about Alex. Last Thursday I played the "don't pressure him, let him breathe" game after Alex hit 599 and was at the plate trying to hit 600 but now how much can we attribute to pressure?

The Yankees meanwhile have been trying to play the game as if they're not focused on Alex's homerun but it's hard not to get sucked into the fan fare especially when one player has got the world on edge. The Yankees won tonight 8-0 with tremendous work from Cano, Teixeira, and Gardner who were all productive at the plate. So, with a score like this, maybe the Yankees are focused on the game and not so much A-Rod's quest. For both the team and Alex's sake, focusing on the task at hand is key as well as not feeding into the media hype and the camera flashes when Alex is at the plate.

In other news, the NY Mets have been really working hard to secure a first place spot in the NL East. Last night against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets won 8-2. Tonight, the Mets treated their fans to a nail biter as the game went to the 13th inning. Their astounding rally to almost secure a 2nd win was squashed as the Cardinals won 8-7 in the 13th inning. I'm rooting for you guys so let's put some muscle into it and climb out of 3rd place.

Come on NY, let's show them why we're popular!

Happy 600th...I Mean...35th Birthday A-Rod!

On July 27, 1975, Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez was born in Washington Heights, NYC to proud Dominican parents who knew one day, like all parents, that their child would be destined for greatness.

I'll save the noteworthy life-altering and record shattering achievements for a later date....once he hits 600...but it's something to note that at the age of 35, Alex is on his quest for 600 home runs and continues to shatter records daily. However, on this day Alex, I personally want to give you a shoutout and congratulate you on everything you've accomplished thus far. You're a man of wisdom, character, strength, tenacity, and downright warmth.

I hope you enjoy your birthday and may God continue to bless you with peace, love, joy, family, and serenity.

Don't You Know Rockin' Robbie Cano!

The sun was out, the bats were hot, and Alex Rodriguez was continuing his quest for 600 home runs. While the Bronx was on pins and needles waiting for glory, Robinson Cano was attending another day at work. 2 hits away from hitting his 1000th career hit, Robinson did what has become second nature to him, hit. After collecting his first hit of the day and leaving him 1 hit away from 1,000, the sky opened up and mother nature had other plans. As rain poured down, the tarp was on the field and for 2 hours, we fans had to wait for two milestones to take place. The anxiety began to build.

After the storm subsided, we were back to baseball and back to Alex Rodriguez again. In the 8th, with 2 on and 1 out, Alex Rodriguez was at the plate and boy could you cut the tension with a knife. For anyone who doesn't know the back story between Kansas and Alex, try going back to August 4, 2007, which happened to be my birthday, where Alex hit his 500th career homer off of Kyle Davies. All caught up now? Well, Davies wasn't pitching but Kansas couldn't afford for Alex to celebrate again so Alex was hit by a pitch and taken out of the game.

Things always seem to work out because Robbie came to plate and smacked a 2 run double and gave the Yankees a 12-5 lead. Robinson has now joined baseball elites as he garnered his 1000th career hit. The Yankees would go on to win the game 12-6.

Don't you know Rockin' Robbie Cano? If you don't you better start watching games because this kid is a star and well on his way to Yankee/baseball immortality.

Congratulations Robinson.

1000 Never Looked So Good!

As the world waits for Alex Rodriguez to hit his 600th homerun, magic is happening elsewhere on the Yankees. Tonight, Jorge Posada, catcher and original member of the Core Four, has hit his 1000th RBI. This is a moment that he and Yankee fans will relish in forever. Take in this moment Jorge because you've earned it. It seemed as if nothing could detract from the glorious celebration but the weather had different plans.

Bolts of lightning, cracks of thunder, and flash floods overtook Yankee Stadium for nearly an hour and a half. How did Jorge celebrate in the clubhouse? He most likely played cards and waited anxiously as the rain subsided. After the rain had cleared and the field was brought back to life, the Yankees resumed play and all eyes and camera flashes were tuned into A-rod and his possible 600th homer. Unfortunately, Alex did not hit 600 tonight and I'm glad because it would have taken away from the milestone achieved by a man believe is the next Yankee manager.

Alex, the world will continue to wait and flick pics as you continue your quest for 600. Until then, congratulations Jorge, you continue to raise the bar.

Also, we're 2 hits away from witnessing Robinson Cano's 1000th hit. The milestones just keep on rolling.

If You Really Knew Me...

Last night, MTV premiered a new, thought provoking, show entitled If You Really Knew Me. Set in different high schools across the United States, the over-arching theme of the show is to unite schools under one common banner: love. To some, this idea can come off as cheesy and a bad media ploy for the program behind the show but this program actually holds weight. If the workers or the day known as "Challenge Day" looks familiar, it is because we had first seen them on Oprah around 2005-2006 when they first debuted this program. I was hooked for that one hour then and I am definitely hooked now after watching the first episode.

Let's delve deeper into the issues being presented. As students sit in a circle, they start off by saying "If you really knew me..." then they talk about familial issues, suicide, sexual orientation, peer pressure, etc. It's not easy to discuss these issues with anyone or even with yourself for that matter so when you have to do it in front of a camera, here is where you see true bravery. I want to give these students and students in future episodes my respect because how many of us are dying to address some of these issues but can't find a safe space to do some? How many of us want to look in the mirror and be able to say to ourselves "if you really knew me..."?

I'm proud to say that I am someone who survived the awkward teenage years , the peer pressure, the doubt, and has done something positive with it. However, there are some of us who haven't come to grips with these issues and if you're reading and are still harboring these emotions, then know that I support you.

If you really knew me, you'd know that I'm a sucker for positivity and optimism.

This Is What Happens When You Mess With Crazy

Every Monday as you all may have figured out is my Real Housewives of New Jersey night. Last week was combination of nail biting and adrenaline as Danielle and Teresa fought over words. This week is pretty light yet disturbing as Jacqueline, Danielle, Teresa, and the rest of the girls are dealing with the consequences of Ashley's actions. I think I'll start with Danielle.

Danielle decided to press charges against Ashley for her hair pulling attack at the fashion show. While I'm an advocate for justice, I have to question Danielle's maturity in engaging in a feud with a 19 year old.Let's keep in mind that Danielle is nearly 50. Shouldn't this be taken up with the mother rather than with the child? Granted Ashley is an "adult" she is half this woman's age and it's inappropriate for a mother of 2 to verbally attack a child on facebook and then continue the charade on camera. Danielle, get it together because it's starting to become pathetic.

Now on to Ashley. As previously stated in other postings, Ashley you're in that phase where you're invincible to world and nothing can harm you. I'm 2 years older than you and I feel that way at times but I also know not to provoke someone mentally unstable. You know better than to try and battle with a crazy person. Listen, I know Danielle hasn't been declared unstable by a doctor but her behavior is disturbing and not normal for someone who is almost 50.

In bringing the topic back on Ashley, I believe I support minor jail time for her because it's the only way she'll learn some discipline and learn that there's a time and place for everything.

Boss...This One Is For You

The Yankees played their first game at home since the All Star Game and the sudden death of George Steinbrenner. The team knew that their return to the Bronx would be filled with commemorative tributes to both Steinbrenner and Bob Sheppard thus; they didn't disappoint.

Mariano Rivera placed two roses on home plate one for Mr. Steinbrenner and one for Mr. Sheppard. Following this gesture came the speech by the captain Derek Jeter who poured his emotions into his farewell speech to the two men who had the greatest impact in his life. After a moving performance of the National Anthem, it was time for baseball.

The Rays came swinging early to take an early lead to 1-0. Then, after pouring on the muscle power, the Rays took a 3-1 lead. Just when it seemed as if the emotions of losing the boss would take over, Robinson Cano hit a solo shot to make the game 3-2. Right after that blast, Jorge Posada hit another solo shot to tie the game 3-3. The stadium was in an uproar.

However, the play of the night would come from Nick Swisher who hit hard into the upper deck to tie the game 4-4. Think the Yankees were trying to make the boss proud? Hold on for the final cap off of the night.

In the bottom of the night with 2 on, Derek Jeter came to plate and it would only be fitting for the captain, the man whose heart is torn into pieces, to win the game. Sadly, he struck out. But, here's the kicker. George Steinbrenner was a native of Ohio and besides loving his family, he loved the Yankees and the Buckeyes. Now, Nick Swisher attended Ohio State and this sat well with Steinbrenner so can you guess who won the game?...NICK SWISHER! As an appropriate goodbye to "The Boss", Swisher hit a shot in the outfield as Granderson scored at home. Mr. Steinbrenner definitely oversaw tonight's victory. Yankees win 5-4.

Some Streaks Are Meant To Be Broken

The 81st All Star Game is complete and the National League has snapped a 13 year losing streak by winning the game 3-1. The NL has now gained home field advantage which should be motivation for the NL to win the World Series.

Early in the game, Robinson Cano hit a sac fly to bring in the runner home to give the AL a 1-0 lead. That lead would last until Atlanta's Brian McCann hit a double which brought in 3 runs to give the NL a 3-1. This was possible because of singles given up from Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes. After it seemed as if the AL had given Dodgers pitcher Jonathan Broxton some trouble, he found his form and won the game.

The American League has won the All Star Game for the past 12 meetings giving them home field advantage in the World Series. I will extend congratulations to the NL because living in the AL's shadow must have been hard but don't rest on your laurels for too long, the AL, including the dreaded Red Sox, are coming for you!

Tonight's game provided a minor bright spot in today's tragic passing of George Steinbrenner and it was nice to have 4 hours of something to cheer for although Steinbrenner's death has cast a cloud over baseball.

RIP George Steinbrenner...I Didn't Think I'd Be Saying This So Soon

Nearly a week after celebrating his 80th birthday and having countless family, friends, and fans honor him, the beloved George Michael Steinbrenner III has passed away this morning in Florida of a heart attack. If you're like me right now, your heart is torn into pieces. I never knew the man personally but as an avid fan of the Yankee franchise and his team since 1995, I always felt a special connection to him....a connection that I even stressed down to our birthdays...he was born on July 4th and I was born on August 4th. So, when news broke of his tragic passing how did I react? I sat with my mouth wide open and couldn't make a sound. If this is bad for me, imagine how baseball must feel.

Tonight is the 81st All-Star Game and with Yankee players scheduled to play, it's no wonder that their hearts are broken into pieces as well. While the 25 man roster along with coaches may be blinded with tears, the Core 4, Andy, Derek, Mariano, and Posada must be crippled. This is the man who took a chance on four unknown young men, fostered their talents, and turned them into superstars. And, these four men have never bit the hand that fed them. They've always been loyal to the boss.

I want to take time out to give my greatest condolences to the Steinbrenner family. To his wife Elizabeth Zieg, you knew your husband like no other and thank you for allowing the world to love your husband as you have for all these years. To his children Hank, Hal, Jessica, and Jennifer, thank you for sharing your father with the world and for never scorning him for putting the business before you guys at times.

In closing, it's only fitting to say RIP George Steinbrenner.

Your House Is In Foreclosure! No It's Not...Bitch!

Well well well after going through a Real Housewives of New Jersey withdrawal last Monday, tonight was the episode that we were all waiting for. Tonight was the showdown between Teresa Giudice and Danielle Staub. Two weeks ago, we left off with the infamous "Don't call me honey/Is bitch better?"quote and to continue the drama, Danielle sparked a powder keg in Teresa when she responded to Teresa's "I live in a 5 million dollar mansion" quote by saying "Your house is in foreclosure". Honey child....Teresa snapped and proceeded to chase Danielle down the hallway. Danielle broke her heel and hid behind a bush. If you think it ended there...you weren't watching.

As Kim G tried to escort Danielle back to the car, Ashley, Jacqueline's daughter, grabbed Danielle's hair and ripped out some of her extensions. Stick around I have something to say about Ashley's behavior in a bit. As the commotion died down, Danielle called the cops and Ashley wasn't brought up on charges. All may have seemed well for Ashley but her behavior wasn't received well by her parents and she was chastised for her poor judgment. Ultimately, it looks as if Ashley will be arrested.

Where to begin? I'll start with altercation between Teresa and Danielle. Teresa if you know you're dealing with someone unstable, the slightest thing can set them off. They're unbalanced therefore you have to be delicate or else there are consequences...irrational consequences. No one wins against someone whose behaviors mirrors that of a psycho.

Ashley Ashley Ashley...how old are you again? You're 18? Yes you're 18 which means you stay out of grown folk's business. Unless you saw your mother being hit, you keep your mouth shut and your hands to yourself. Now, Danielle is going to press charges on you and what are you going to do about that? You have no means of fending for yourself and for you to talk back to your parents is UNACCEPTABLE. In my house, there were repercussions for back talk...not nice ones. The only way for her to learn how to stay in her place is for her to get arrested. I support that.

Congratulations to Albie Manzo for fighting his semi-discriminatory case against his former Law School. You rock!

Back Back Back...David Ortiz Wins The HR Derby!

David Ortiz takes home the title of winner at this year's 2010 State Farm Homerun Derby. In the first round, Ortiz put up 8 homeruns and in the second round, Ortiz put up 13 homeruns. In the final round, Ortiz hit 11 homeruns.

Milwaukee player Corey Hart hit an impressive 13 homeruns in the first round but because he hit 0 in the second round, he was eliminated from the competition.

Our very own Yankee Nick Swisher hit 4 homeruns in the first round and was eliminated after that round. Swisher enjoyed the experience as well as fellow Yankees, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano, who enjoyed a nice laugh when Swisher foul tipped the ball for an out.

Ramirez and Cabrera both showed great power in their hitting as they also put on a show.

Despite all of the drama this week with Cano's backing out of the derby and criticism of the "lack of talent", it was good-natured, fun event that everyone enjoyed.

Tomorrow is the much anticipated All Star Game. Good luck to all...but really the American League.

R.I.P. Bob Sheppard

Bob Sheppard passed away this morning at the age of 99. It's only fitting that I write about him and his illustrious years in sports broadcasting.

Bob Sheppard began his career as a public address announcer in 1951 with the New York Yankees. Such a distinct and crisp voice would continue to illuminate Yankee Stadium until his retirement after the 2007 season. Along with being the "Voice of the Yankees", Sheppard would be the announcer for the New York Giants until his retirement in 2006.

The legacy of Mr. Sheppard has been forever immortalized in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium, as well as cameos on Seinfeld, hit ESPN show, The Bronx is Burning, and numerous films such as Anger Management, For The Love of The Game, 61*, and The Scout.

To end, I think it would only be right to leave off with his ever-so-famous quotes that have been lodged in our brains and will continue to occupy a spot in our hearts forever:

Nick Swisher Must Be Feeling Swishalicious

Nick Swisher has just been announced to participate in the 2010 Homerun Derby. This comes days after another Yankee, Robinson Cano, withdrew from the competition after concern about his swing and an apparent "back injury". What a high Nick Swisher must be feeling right now.

After a brilliant campaign for the Final Vote in this year's All-Star Game, Nick Swisher trounced Kevin Youkilis from the Red Sox to secure his spot on the American League team. Likewise, Swish has improved his batting tremendously from roughly around .280 to above .300. Now with this latest addition, Nick Swisher is on Cloud 9. However, I can't help but wonder when concerns will emerge to deter Swisher from hitting on Monday night.

Until then, Nick Swisher is participating in the derby. As noted by Mark Feinsand on his twitter page, "Swisher called Girardi, Long and Cashman before agreeing to participate in the Home Run Derby. They all gave him their blessing".

Welcome To Miami LeBron James!

The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived and after a week of anticipation and the literal halt of sports programming on ESPN, NBA star LeBron James has made his decision and he will be joining....The Miami Heat! Congratulations Miami, you have a powerhouse in the South with Wade, Bosh, and James. I know a lot of bets have been lost and fans are going to pull crack out the irrational behavior but this decision wasn't an easy one to make.

It's a bittersweet decision because while LeBron was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and dedicated 7 years of his life to Cleveland and literally broke bones to satisfy the crowd and live up to multi-million dollar endorsements, it's hard to carry a team solely. In keeping with my newfound phrase "Let's just call it for what it is", how many people are thinking like me and believe his mother's indiscretions with Delonte West played a part in his decision? I'm not going to dedicate this post to that because we as readers are beyond that ignorance but the thought of having to carry the burden of your mother's mistakes with fans holding satirical signs is just too much to bear. It was time to go.

New York, I have some choice words for you. The fact that you invested so much in an inflated dream rather than using those dollars to strengthen the seemingly ok team you already have makes me laugh loudly in your face. Amar'e Stoudamire, I hope you have fun carrying the weight because NY fans show no mercy for mediocrity. You'll really have to bring the A-game now.

Miami, I hope you realize what talent you have in James but also the talent around you. LeBron said it best when he said that "3 people don't make a team" therefore, I hope the organization and staff keep this mind before they start dropping the number down to "1 man carrying the team". To ensure a championship, it will require team effort and I can only wish the best for everyone involved in this shocking move.

Breaking News: Robinson Cano Backs Out of HR Derby

According to MLB.com as relayed by Mark Feinsand of Blogging Bombers, Robinson Cano has backed out of this year's HR Derby due to minor back pain. It had been noted that trainer Gene Monahan expressed serious concern about Cano participating in the derby as well as Kevin Long and manager Joe Girardi statng that it wouldn't be wise for the hot hitter to participate.

Confirmation of Cano's decision to opt out had been solidified by Yankees GM Brian Cashman who admitted that the star backed out of his decision.

It seems all to speculative that once concerns start piling on, Cano decided to withdraw from the competition because of minor back pain...back pain that he has been playing through for quite some time. I don't work for the front office nor am I Cano's body but I find it hard to believe that constant worry and doubt about him playing in a competition wouldn't lead to a withdrawal to cease all talk. I'm very sad that Robinson will not be participating but we shall see how this plays out up until the All-Star game.
